DTV Switchover
Hello, I apologize if this has already been posted, I couldn't find exactly this answer.
I'm a little confused to this whole switchover to DTV thats planned for February. 1. Will this apply to Canada too? 2. Are all stations going to switch over to HDTV? Widescreen? etc. 3. If yes to question 2, is HDTV going to be broadcast at no additional cost? Thanks! :) |
cant answer the question about canada, but no they are not switching to hdtv, that is still going to be an option. The regular broadcast will be SDTV
this site answers a lot of questions http://www.dtv.gov/ This forum says Canada is switching in 2011 http://www.thescoreboards.com/forums...t-mean-hd.html |
Cool, thanks Shani! :D

It will be a couple of years until Canada must switch over but most of the Free to Air channels (at least in the Toronto area) are running HD Digital over the air now. Toronto has an abundance of signals available (including many from the US).
That said, when the swtich occurs in the US you will lose the US channels if you don't switch to digital. By the by... Over the air HD is better than what the cable/sat companies are providing. The bandwidth on over the air is much higher. |
