i have a huge problem, i have two wireless/routers and i need them to share wireless internet. I have the routers working and all set up but they arent networking to eachother nor are they sharing internet. i was wondering if anybody outhere knows how to config the routers to network and share internet wirelessly. I know they can reach eachother because my laptop is getting a signal from both. Oh also i forgot to mention they are both d-link 614+ routers and the internet is road runner. thx:)

Well, first of all, why are you running two? What OS are you using, as XP understands bridging and will do it on its own if it sees too many requests for a network setup and decides the self determined one is not happening.

But, for my own curiousity, why are you running two? Your D-Link has a four port switch. You must have some network situations I did not notice in your post.

i have a network of 2 pc's thru a dlink router and it shares internet and networks at the same time (it's a wired network).

i ran into this problem and the fault was that i had a firewall up and running. if i disabled the firewall, network worked.

i havnet figured out what port to open.

i have two buildings one with internet and one that is about 1000ft away. i decided to go with the routers because i already had one so all i would have to do is buy some nice antennas and a new router. as for OS one is 98 and the other is XP. I know that the signal on both ends are working fine. i think its a problem with the net sharing maybe, ip, or DHCP, or MAC, maybe there is some sort of conflict with the settings. i dunno :confused:

you actually only needed one wireless router which will be the 'gateway' to the internet (your roadrunner thing).

the other, should just be a wireless access point. anyway. Is it possible for you to return one d-link in exchange for just a wireless access point?

if not ... you need to figure out how to disable the routing and dhcp function (I don't know how to do this) on the one that is not connected to roadrunner (let's call this the AP, and the other the WBBR). I.e., make it act like a normal switch or regular hub.

Let the WBBR do the routing and the dhpc-ing. Give the AP an IP address that is outside the WBBR DCHP range.

then, you need to ensure that all your devices are :
1. pointing to the WBBR IP add as the gateway
2. having the same SSID
3. on the same WEP key (you do want to have encryption don't you !?!?! use your mobile phone number if you have to !)
4. oh. and same channel.

p.s.: and read The_Dude's reply. disable. if you need firewall, configure it on the WBBR.

You cannot bridge, unless the d-link 614+ supports AP Client mode, and I don't think it does. If not, get a D-Link DWL-900AP+, or a DWL-810+, and configure it as a client to the d-link 614+. If you are using MAC filtering, you may need to add the remote LAN hosts to your allow list. If using a DWL-900AP+ in AP client mide, know that it will go down a couple times a month. You might wanna put it on a timer to reboot it every morning. The DWL-900AP+ also has a repeater mode that you may want to use. If you have reliability or speed issues, set your APs/bridges/routers to use only go up to 11mpbs.
