The service went down at around 10:20am GMT and, as yet, has failed to come back online. However users have reported that they are still able to access email via their desktop inboxes and phones, suggesting the problem is related to just the website.
Apparently, Google is aware of the problem and is working on it. What really surprises me, though, is how much people are freaking out about it. Am I the only one who checks his mail once a month?

You'll have to remove the brackets yourselves because I'm still not allowed to post URLs.

I check my email constantly. In fact, I just checked my gmail account it was working fine.

If I am online, my gmail is open, which is usually about 14 hours a day, it was down when I got to work, but started working again about 630 am EST

people rely on email. there's plenty of corporations where email cannot be down for any time during business hours so all service is done on weekends when there will be the least amount of impact.

don't tell me, you still connect to the internet via dial up modem 14.4k?

Pfft, please. It's a state-of-the-art 56k connection, thank you very much.

I guess I'm just too misanthropic to have any email to look forward to.

So you are not using military high-speed standard at 300 bauds ? :)

I still recall the hassle of trying to explain to everyone else in the house why they can't pick up the phone while the modem's off-hook. . .And that the hissing and tones does not mean the phone is broken. . .

I could also, btw, connect at 300baud by whistling into the phone ;)

Luckily this happened while I was sleeping.

And it would be a big deal if it happened during my school day; these days my professors require that I check my email and Blackboard on a daily basis. All of my school email gets forwarded to my Gmail box (all my emails do). Blackboard's gone down at our university a couple of times; that's always painful.
