FTP advice needed

What would you guys reccomend for a FTP client//program for a relatively new user?

nulltype 07-07-2003 10:47 AM

Operating System?

EDIT: And you mean just a client, not a server, right?

SiN 07-07-2003 10:52 AM

for windows - FlashFXP.

i believe it's easy enough for a n00b, but good enough for 'geeks' to use and love as well.

:)

cuteFTP is really easy to use.

IMO FlashXP is a bit confusing to the n00b because it can connect to two FTP sites at the same time to transfer between FTP sites.

The_Dude 07-07-2003 11:14 AM

i use FTP voyager or used to use it.

winxp handles my basic ftp needs.

dudemac 07-07-2003 11:21 AM

IE has a built in ftp client, but all the ones above are good.

FlashFXP is the best Windows client. It's not TOO hard to use, and has many advanced features in case you know how to use em. http://www.flashfxp.com

And I highly recommend you never use IE to log onto FTP sites, IE is a terrible FTP client. It seems to make multiple logins, which can piss off siteops. It also seems to be slow. I haven't done extensive testing so I can't be sure, but I can almost always tell when someone tries to log onto my ftp server using IE. I ban them immediately and tell them to get a real client.

SmartFTP is the best, IMHO. http://www.smartftp.com

i like bitbeamer. wsftp is nice & small, gets the job done

Konichiwaneko 07-10-2003 08:13 PM

I second smartftp...and if I register another name (which I won't)

I would third it also.

MacGnG 07-10-2003 08:45 PM

ftp server: for those that want one

guild ftp for a server, simple easy free

Flippy 07-10-2003 09:42 PM

I'll have to agree with all the FlashFXP people here :) When I moved to Flash from CuteFTP, I didn't really have that much more to do - the interfaces of both are similar and are both geared towards beginning users.

Flash just has the capability to do so much more though - that's why I like it.

WSFTP is what i use its TINY and fast gets the job done

merkdr 07-11-2003 03:29 AM

cute ftp its easy to use ,serv-u same

Destrox 07-11-2003 05:58 AM

FlashFXP for life

It can be the most basic of clients, and can be the most powerful if you know how.

SmartFTP for the client

juanvaldes 07-12-2003 08:27 PM

ftp - not n00b friendly though...

lakefire 07-13-2003 03:46 PM

i've used 3 ftps' and i'll say that filezilla is the best. I've used wsftp and did not like it at all, used cuteftp but that wasn't free and only had the evaluation. also used bison, so i guess that's 4.

filezilla is JUST like cuteftp. it is very friendly and very nice. very easy to use.

Speed_Gibson 07-14-2003 03:09 AM

I have been using Filezilla for awhile myself - works good for me
