Trouble with IE
 

Well my IE seems to have a problem when opening. It takes almost a minute to open after I click it. It is not my system, I know that much for sure. I have run Ad-Aware, and Norton Anti-virus, and have come up clean. Any ideas?

Does it say something about 'detecting proxy settings'?

When was the last time you rebooted?

Doesn't give any messages at all. I roboot atleast once a day.

How much memory do you have on your system? And how much is free upon startup, or when you are trying to open IE. Is IE the only thing that is slow like this?

You're going to want to look at the status bar, on the bottom left. If the status bar is not enabled, go to : view, and make sure that 'status bar' is checked.

If it wasn't checked, make sure that it is, close down all the explorers, or just reboot. Then, when you reopen iexplore, pay attention to the bottom left of the taskbar. If it says something like "detecting proxy settings" you've just identifed your problem.

Cleaned out your cache file? I've found that too many temporary internet files can slow the loading of IE, it seems to want to read through all those files.

Tools->Internet Options->Temporary Internet Files->Delete

Well I have a gig of system RAM so I dont think its a memroy issue. Yes, IE is the only thing acting slow like this. I can run games, programs, other browers ( Firefox is my other browser ) just fine. I also cleared all my cahe and still same problem. I checked the status bar and no messages about proxy settings.......So am I just out of luck?...and thanks for all your help guys. I guess if all else fails Ill just use FireFox all the time

One thing comes to mind.

Hop on over to www.dslreports.com , make a free account, go to tools, run the 'tweak test.' If need be, you may need to change your MTU and RWIN. A bad RWIN can cause lags in data transfer.

Just a thought.

Oh, and remember, if you're running a PPPOE on a router, or hell, even a router as a gateway, you may need to change the RWIN and MTU of your router.

try running the new version of spybot (1.3).

the other thing i can think of is: try opening the task manager before you open IE. check and see if anything is taking up all the memory usage...

i worked on a computer where the "services" would peak up to 99% whenever IE was started. it was due to some really deep-seeded malware and hi-jackers.

I was having the same sort of issues...tried most of the suggested fixes here...ended up switching to Netscape...no problems since.
