Post your complaints about modern society or the world you live in. It might be small things, it might be big things, in no particular order. I'm sure I have forgotten some, but I need to start a list so when I pull a 'Into The Wild'* move, I have something to reference.

-Air pollution, car exhaust, people who don't fix their cars,
-Lack of unity of society to do anything, like using reusable bags unless they are forced to by the government or by corporations
-E-medical records aren't being implemented because of money, no one standard, companies want monthly fees, database security concerns...
-Copyrights transfer to other people once the author is dead.
-Corporate tax shelters, and Executive $1 salary deals that the average person can't get in order to pay single digit tax rates.
-Fake foods, artificial sweeteners, bad fast food, pink slime 'meat', and a bunch of other stuff that passes off as 'food'
    -Obesity epidemic, sedentary lifestyles
-Too much bad information, Internet, and screen time
-Sick people at school and work who don't/can't stay home (me included). Although there is a very high bar set to be considered 'sick' as well.
-There isn't a distributed Internet where your house connects to your neighbors either by wireless, CAT 5 or by fiber optics. Cost per month = $0
-Big Pharma doesn't want cures to diseases, they want daily pills that you have to take
-Wall Street and financial players have too much power in the world and aren't using it for good most of the time.
-Robots and AI will take over most people's jobs, yet society is not prepared for the massive unemployment levels this would entail.
-Home Owner Association monthly/quarterly fees and regulations.
    -Lack of free time

    ---------------------
*It is a good movie, although you have to like the outdoors. If I ever lose my job, Office Space and Into The Wild are the first two movies I will watch.

I had a crap commute this morning. The train was rolling into the station when I arrived, running to catch it, I managed to squeeze onto the car. Great so far! I only have to travel two stops but the first stop is a busy one with many getting off and many getting on. I have a choice of moving further into the train, making my exit at the next stop difficult, standing in the doorway impeding the flow, or getting out of the way by stepping off the train and back on after everyone has alighted and the new riders have entered. I usually choose the latter and it works just fine.

Today, I stepped off the train and watched as a few riders who wanted to stay on the stood in the doorway and slowed everyone down trying to get off. Idiots! Then, as it was time to get back on, the train filled up and I was not able to squeeze back on the train. I had to wait for the next one. Not the end of the world but Christ, can't people get the fuck out of the way? Also, I could see there was a lot space in the car... just not at the door.

When the next car came, I managed to get on but further into the car than usual. This made the exit at the next station tricky. Why? Because the bunch in front of me would not move to let me out.

    It was crappy commute.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

The week I get to go to Vermont to ski it's 50 freaking degrees out.
And ASU, I work in a system that uses electronic medical records. They suck big time. So what do you think you are missing out on?

    kramus what I might see

So I had day surgery on my butt a week ago. Post-op in the hospital I'm given a prescription for Tylenol 3. I'm told when I run out just refill it. Riding the edge of pain I make it through the weekend by using up old leftover meds. Yesterday I call the surgeon's office for a renewal because my prescription had no repeats. The machine tells me they are closed for a week. My own doctors office stuck me with an answering machine that tells me if I don't have an emergency a call-back can take 2 days. I am in no shape to ride to/sit in an emergency room/clinic for hours on end in order to get pain meds (my ass was sliced & diced - I have trouble standing/sitting for any length of time). So here I am eating regular tylenol/ibuprofin like candy & snarling about a system that must really fuck people around regularly. WTF was the surgeon thinking, giving me meds designed to run out while he buggers off on holiday? A dead easy fix vs lots of pain & inconvenience. Not impressed.

That many would rather kill you than change their mind or perception.

...it's like you told them "The World is Round..."

    ----
That or they are caught by "surprise" by something that should have been obvious.
"What! You mean that temp employee that was only supposed to be here 2 months has found another job???" (...a week before the 2 months are up. )

The thing is they don't have to suck. Maybe the doctors and software people need to watch Star Trek a little to see how they should work. It really shouldn't be that big of a problem and it would be nice to have the doctor be able to tell me that I should do this or that based on my medical record (that only myself, my doctor, or two ER doctors (if I am unable to grant access) can access along with logs of who accessed it).

My primary care doctor switched and is doing good things, but if I move, will the new doctor have the same data? What about data from specialists and tests that I've had done throughout my life?

People who ask for an answer, then don't listen or followup when you give them the solution.

I don't get it...why spend a much higher amount on an expert...then when they give you a variety of answers...they are paid attention to.
    It's a waste.
A waste of money, a waste of the potential...and even though the expert is getting paid...it's a waste of their time, effort and skill.

I see this waste all the time...money thrown out the door.
    And the true problem continues...

If you pay for it, friggin' listen.
If they are good...they're not talking for their own warm & fuzzies.
    And DO SOMETHING with it.

Trucks that drive 5 under the speed limit and don't pull over even though Oregon state law says that if anyone is holding up more than 5 cars, they need to pull over. Thursday and Friday I had to drive to another nearby town for a workshop, and there is a lot of commuting going on on the road I had to use. Unfortunately, it's only two lanes, and so one log truck going slow holds up a whole mess of people. What is normally a 30-minute drive to my university's campus took 45 because of this jackhole.

Fucking stupid people on airplanes. All of them. I hope I don't get arrested upon arrival at O'Hare for beating the shitboit of the person who is slamming the back of my seat. I already hate the aisle, this dude is going to piss me off.

So, you make more parking spots by decreasing the width; then you write $15 tickets for folks that are 1" over the line. I measured the space in question, it's 1.5" wider than my Tacoma (and I'd have made it if I hadn't cut the wheel so hard to the right).

There is nothing I bought downtown that I couldn't have bought cheaper on the web. Your "Buy locally" campaign can kiss my ass.

Why is it so hard for the fashion world to produce clothing for the normal male torso?

I mean, I'm far from a '80s action hero here but it's a little ridiculous that I can't buy shirts that fit because a medium doesn't fit my shoulders/chest and a large gives me enough room around the waist to store a fucking sleeping bag.

I realize America is fat as fuck but, c'mon, those of us that are so sexy it hurts need to wear clothes occasionally and would prefer they don't make us look like sailboats.

  20. You're not as normal as you think Plan9 And I mean that in a good sense (mostly)

You work out "like a shaved King Kong" and maintain a healthy cereal fed body. You're in a very small segment of the population. You want clothes to fit? Lie on the couch, eat Doritos and drink Mountain Dew all day. Develop a gut and flabby arms. You'll look like a million bucks.
