I've been a nerd my whole life. When I was a kid I remember getting excited over switching from 5 inch floppies to 3.5's. But still even I take one look at ablets and think "for that much why don't I just get a netbook and have a REAL computer?". I just don't get why nobody takes a tablet that's actually powerful enough to rival a netbook, makes it durable enough to handle the treatment of actual use instead of a bedside toy or media/email reader, and does something more than just pair it with an overglorified bluetooth keyboard.

I think Asus just did it. I'm shocked to find myself seriously considering this as a replacement for my laptop when it eventually dies on me. The only complaint I have is not having a bootable USB port right on the tablet itself. I've been waiting for something like this since just about the first time I saw a Padd in Star Trek and for the first time in my life I actually feel like I'm looking at something and thinking "Holy shit, I'm in the FUTURE!"

Who else thinks we might finally have a worthy competitor to the iPad here?

Sounds quite nice to me. Found this small review after a google search for specs and more specific information. The biggest appeal for me to consider a ipad would be the icloud and the way it would sync with my ipod, but this device gets my interest instantly and I would seriously consider it if the money was there for it, and it is cheaper than the Apple option.

I can't seem to find any dimensions on it. I need a replacement for my 9" Eee PC but if it's bigger in length/width, I won't bother. I won't even go to the 10" version.

*edit* Found the dimensions: 263mm(10-3/8") x 180mm(7-1/16") which is 1-1/2" longer and over 1/2" wider than my 900HD. No thanks.

Is the extra inch/half THAT big of a deal?

I like that. I want something like this that can do Windows while letting me plug in USB drives and devices. I'm not sold on the detachable keyboard bit either.. I would rather have one built in while still remaining nice and slim. It's too valuable to leave behind.

Then you pretty much have a netbook, which is really all this is save that it can also be a tablet. The only thing is that most netbooks really run best on a linux distro or custom OS, windows is just too... big. I'm sure there are plenty that run it, but I'm also just as sure that they would run far faster and better with something like MINT, Debian, or Arch.

I`ve had the transformer prime now for one week and absolutely love it. Picked up the keyboard for it today.

I've been hearing a lot of post-release complaints about wifi/GPS signal issues, most people seem to think the switch to a metal case is to blame. Anything like that happen with yours so far?

Anyone else get one of these? I'm looking at buying one for graduate school. I will be taking a lot of my classes online. I anticipate doing most of my work on my desktop, but I'm interested in something like this for the one day a month I'm in in person classes and for checking Moodle, as checking Moodle on my phone sucks.

    This looks nice...

I've always had really good experiences with ASUS as well.

I've been quite anti-tablet since they came out (for the same basic reasons as you), but this does seem worth a look.
