DamnitAll and I decided that since there's a Sappy Love Songs thread, we needed somewhere to post our favorite breakup songs! (I'm kind of stealing her thunder, shhhh.)

So get angry, get sad, get whatever. Just post em.

    Good call!

Disclaimer: I kinda hate Taylor Swift. But I DO like this song. It's one of those "turn up the radio and sing at the top of your lungs" songs for me.

I feel the EXACT same way about this song. It's one of my angry belting songs, along with "Should Have Said No" The two good TSwizzle songs, in my opinion.

I'm going to have to come back to this one, since I exhausted all of my meaningful song mojo sleuthing skills on picking out the sappy ones. So, yeah.

CinnamonGirl - grr. Taylor can fuck right on off. Hate her more than you hate Dust on the Bottle.

and... the one I love and hate at the same time. (played way too much during a rough patch a few years back)

Oh boy...yeah. I'm not going to listen to it just now for fear of where it will take me, but I listened to that song a lot after the demise of my first serious LTR.

Alright, the opening salvo. I'm kind of going to cheat and link to these instead of embedding them because as much as I dislike impatient people (attn. GeneticShift), I am currently one myself and feel compelled to spit them all out at once. So deal.

Joe Jackson, Breaking Us In Two

Todd Rundgren, Can We Still Be Friends (though I much prefer—and therefore linked to—Mandy Moore's version instead)

    Ani DiFranco, Done Wrong

    R.E.M., Everybody Hurts

    Ben Folds, Gone

    Sara Bareilles, Hold My Heart

    Dixie Chicks, A Home

Bonnie Raitt, I Can't Make You Love Me

    Peter Gabriel, I Grieve

Three Days Grace, I Hate Everything About You

    Blink182, I Miss You

Guns 'n' Roses, I Used to Love Her

    Muse, Madness

    Ani DiFranco, Sorry I Am

Tori Amos, Tear In Your Hand

    Kelly, Txt Msg Brkup

    Ani DiFranco, Untouchable Face

Linkin Park, Waiting For the End

    Cake, Walk On By

    Carly Simon, You're So Vain

We can thank the Ex for these ones. Had it not been for her influence, I probably never would have listened to many of them. From now on I probably won't have any reason to voluntarily listen to them ever again. Thanks again, Ex.

Dolly Parton, The Grass Is Blue

Vince Gill, I Still Believe in You

Johnny Cash, I Still Miss Someone

    Dolly Parton, I'm Gone

    Indigo Girls, Moment of Forgiveness

    Vince Gill, Never Knew Lonely

    Anne Murray, Tennessee Waltz

Vince Gill, Tryin' to Get Over You

    Ouch, my heart.

Damn, we got busy, and I had some errands to run. Okay...now it's Story Time.

I saw Keri Noble at the Southgate House in Newport on a total spur-of-the-moment outing (as in, I left the house approximately fifteen minutes before she was scheduled, and about five minutes after I learned about the gig. Luckily, she had an opening act.) The Infamous Douchebag Ex and I were still together, but barely...I was starting to see what everyone else saw, sort of, but I hadn't worked up the courage to tell him to fuck off yet. I think we were "taking a break" at that point, but I'd give in if he called and wanted sex.

Anyway. Being under his thumb for the better part of three years, I had this almost-silly feeling of being brave and daring and adventurous, just for GOING to the gig, on the fly and by myself. It was a pretty intimate setting, only thirty people or so, and it was just Keri and her piano up on stage.

I remember she talked about writing "Watch Me Walk," but sadly, I don't remember what she said. I just know that when she started singing, it knocked the breath out of me. It was at that point I truly realized that this relationship had an expiration date, and I had to stand up for myself...and walk out of his life. It took me about a month more to actually do it, but this song started the process.
