Should this go under the GOP thread?

Come on down? House GOP weighs the right price to topple a speaker

This sounds like the usual squabbling among politicians as they establish a pecking order in the HOR.

It's much more than that. The agreement they reach could impact how far the Repub controlled House goes with the numerous promised "investigations" into Biden individually, & his administration.

Some investigations could be justified. Many would only be vindictive folly that slows down the real work that needs to be done.

I almost forgot it will also affect how many meaningless symbolic bills get sent to the Senate to be rejected, & how many worthy ideas will never see the light of day.

"Play nice with the Repubs, & they'll be nice to you (don't think for one second the Dems don't do the same)."

While I agree with this in principle there seems to be degrees that the Republicans will go that most Democrats won't.
Notice I didn't say all Democrats but Democrats in general don't seem to be willing to go to the 8th circle of hell that the Republicans seem to be willing to.

Yeah, these days it seems so. Book deals, cushy jobs, etc. It must be nice.

Right now, the GOP has been on a losing streak in special elections.

The Dems have the momentum, especially since the public is calling them on their nonsense and the GOP will likely get blamed for the shutdown.

T being on a losing streak too isn’t helping
So hopefully the GOP and their supporters will be demoralized by then.

AZ has most likely a Dem winning, the Dems have been resurgent there.
WV will likely lose to a Republican, they vote straight GOP these days. Manchin has been an anomaly.

I’d say the Dems hold onto the Senate.
The House is up for grabs.

    Both

The GOP hard right let it get to this point.
But at least the Dems worked with McCarthy and the GOP to pass something at the last minute (they could have been spoilers...and let the GOP sink, but damage the government)

And the 1st time it has ever happened.
Not unexpected since he was weak and how many times it took to vote him in.
The radical right in the House are a pushy group.

Not a surprise at all because McCarthy had to allow the Speaker Eject Button to become Speaker. He set a record for being the first Speaker removed, & the 15 ballot calls it took for him to get elected is a post Civil War record.

I laugh when I see him in the news talking about his record of bipartisanship. Then I remember a new funding deadline is about six weeks away, and I stop laughing.

I read an interesting comment (paraphrased):
The hard right Repubs who removed McCarthy because he worked with the Dems worked with the Dems to remove McCarthy.

I'm glad the rule is in place. Agent Orange 45 doesn't have the intelligence or patience to make through half a day. His assistant would be a House version of Dick Cheney.
