Couldn't find a thread on this.

I love music, a lot. And I like some of the remade songs, but really not a lot. Here's my favorite, in particular order.

Baker's Street by the Foo fighters.
    Satisfaction by Devo
    Gin and Juice by Sublime
Going back to Cali by Sevendust

    So whatchya got??

Off the top of my head:

"Let It Ride" Big Sugar (key new feature: sick soloing)
"It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" Great Big Sea (key new feature: jacked-up tempo)

(I'm sure I'll add more later.)

The Devo cover of "Satisfaction" rips the Rolling Stones original to shreds. Love that one.

Also, according to Robert Plant, Dread Zeppelin's version of "Your Time Is Gonna Come" is better than the Led Zeppelin song. I concur.

Oh, and Gabriela y Rodrigo's "Stairway to Heaven" and "Orion."

I can think of several I like.... but the They Might Be Giants cover of "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" is probably my absolute favorite.

Edit: Oh, and the Sundays' version of Wild Horses. Yum.

I could not find the original by Prince, but this has got to be one of my all time favorite remakes.

Never heard this song cover before.
I picked up the Purple Rain LP from Goodwill a few years back in perfect shape with the original poster. Excellent find for 50 cents that I quickly added to my digital musical collection.

I'm not a big fan of a lot of remakes, especially when covered by pop acts. The two best, and you may disagree and be wrong are: hurt, redone by johnny cash, and romeo and Juliet, originally by mark knopfler and reborn by the indigo girls.

OMG, that is an amazing cover!!! I love that one.

Got to love Bruddah Iz. Gets like 1/3 of the words to the song wrong, it's still so fucking awesome that nobody cares.

My favorites are ones by bands that step outside their usual comfort zone to do something very different.

Exhibit A - the drag queens are awesome.

Exhibit B - this is 100% pure unadulterated 80's goodness. Can you even tell the street value of this?

Exhibit C - not my favorite band or even my favorite songwriter. But my mom loves the original so we listened to it a lot as kids. But they took a song about one thing and made a really powerful video about something completely different. You don't expect Metallica to make a video about women's rights.

Exhibit D - English punk sung in French accompanied by an accordion. Just one of many, many, many awesome covers of this particular song.

Exhibit D reminds of the French cover band, Nouvelle Vague, and their unique arrangements

    Blondie's "Heart of Glass"

Tuxedomoon's "In a Matter of Speaking"
