I was shopping with my son and picked up a bag of Doritos...he told me to check the ingredients in Doritos, most of which i couldn't pronounce, then look at Fritos...3 ingredients no chemicals??

Sure, but doritos has flavors and those are part of the ingredients.

If it was just the chips they would pretty much be 2 ingredients for both Fritos and Doritos.

Pulling up my favorite brand Mission tortilla chips
Corn Masa Flour, Water, Vegetable Oil (Cottonseed, Corn and/or Sunflower), Sea Salt.
Mission Brown Bag Yellow Corn Tortilla Rounds 13oz | Mission Foods

The same company makes these tortilla chips and we see that it's pretty comparable

So let's pull up something comparable flavored chips to flavored chips.

    Fritos Classic Ranch

    Doritos Cool Ranch

    Suddenly it's not so weird.

I prefer the plain white corn chips, Mission is pretty good. I also like Fritos Scoops for dip. They don't break as easily and are mainly corn, as you pointed out.
