February 25th marks the 176th anniversary of Samuel Colt's patenting of his Colt Revolver.

Any good memories or stories to share about these weapons?

Here's an image of an original. It sold for almost 1 million bucks at auction in 2011.

It seems like everyone knows about this gun. Here's an old ad.

I can't tell if that's a woman or a boy, but whoever it is, it looks like they're really having fun with that gun.

    Do you enjoy shooting pistols?
Honestly, no. Maybe I haven't hefted one that was right for me, but I'm much more a fan of rifles.
Have you ever shot a Colt?
    Nope.
Any good memories or stories to share about these weapons?
My dad loves Westerns, so I grew up watching a lot of the old movies and tv shows. Bonanza, Hopalong Cassidy, Gunsmoke, the Lone Ranger... Whenever I see a Colt revolver, I think of my dad and those silly (yet wonderful) old shows.

I really like the old time movies and prefer revolvers. I always jam the pistol never matter how many times I use it. Even tried different ammo.
Also my husband had a custom made cowboy crossdraw holster which is really for shows.

Yea, I'm no expert on the Colt SAA, but at the time is represented a quantum leap forward in side-arm technology.
    Do you enjoy shooting pistols?

    Yes. I love shooting pistols.
Do you have a favorite pistol?

Hard to say which one is my favorite. I'd have to say it's my HK P30S.

But I still love shooting 1911s.
Have you ever shot a colt?

Well..kinda? Not a Colt SAA, not even a Colt 1911, but the only Colts I've used were a M4, and the M16A2 issued to me.
Any good memories or stories to share about these weapons?

Well...on one moonlit night, we were training with night vision goggles, M4s, and IR-laser sights. When I put on the NVGs and saw the IR laser, I thought to myself: This is exactly why I joined the military. We were using all sorts of high speed gear that night. After I ran my lane, we had a thunder warning and had to cancel the rest of the exercises. It was fun, though.

-Yes I enjoy shooting pistols. I would agree that rifles are more fun to shoot, but a pistol is what I have on me while in public so I have far more day to day contact with a pistol than a rifle.

-My favorite pistol is my glock 19 in olive drab. When I heard glock was discontinuing the OD variety I bought one quickly. I should have bought more because now they command a decent premium. Despite it being a quasi-collectable it's still my EDC gun.

-I have never shot a Colt and I don't really have any desire to.

-I would say a favorite memory is when me and some of my cousins went shooting in the national forest last summer. It's hard to arrange everyone's schedule so that we can do something so it was a special day and I'm glad we took lots of pics and video.

You guys are so cute with each other. A dynamic new shooting partnership.

First it was Haley and Costa. Now it's ChrisJericho and KirStang. YEAAAH.

    Also:

$212 shipped. Complete with that horribly stiff switch.

    ...

    Do you enjoy shooting pistols?

Yes. Many of my shooting mentors over the years have stressed practice with a pistol over a rifle, even when a rifle with red dot optic was a given.

Do you have a favorite pistol?

Overall, the original Steyr M-series was the most comfortable and accurate pistol I've ever shot. I sold it off because it was too proprietary.

The problem with guns that aren't mainstream is that you can't get parts and necessary accessories aren't put out by other manufacturers.

The H&K USP 45, a monster of a handgun, also earns a place on my shelf because it has performed well for me. But it's huge and heavy.

I've also used the Glock 34 for a long time. It, like the Glock 19, are great guns. Endless shooting, however, has shown me "Glock Hump."

I think I'm going to pick up a new handgun platform to train with in the next year: I never thought I'd say it, but the S&W M&P is pretty nice.

Have you ever shot a Colt?

I own two Colt products. The embarrassingly mediocre M1991A1 (bought on a whim a decade ago, need to junk it) and increasingly rare Colt Anaconda .44 Magnum (totally bought it just because it looks cool). The 8" ported barrel wakes up the range line, too. Shot it maybe 100 times.

Colt's only game is military rifles. Colt makes a good AR-15 rifle and has ALL the government contracts (mafia-style, no less). I'm never going to buy another Colt handgun except maybe a early '60s Python (arguably the finest service revolver ever made). Really, Colt has been out of the handgun game for decades now. 1911-clone manufacturers (low end and high end) and hi-cap polymer handguns have largely taken over the pistol market.

Any good memories or stories to share about these weapons?

Not really. Countless statistics from major universities and psychological journals have shown that owning a handgun leads to a mental disorders (especially paranoia), a hero complex, the death of your neighbors' kids. No telling how many families I've destroyed with my collection on the loose.

Come to think of it, I've only actually gone shooting for fun maybe like three times in my life. The rest of it has been an obsession with putting holes in the center of the target and learning how to do it faster, while moving and from some really weird positions like ass-in-the-air and just-taking-a-nap.

When getting a job and keeping that job depends on your ability to shoot fast and accurately, the enjoyment factor starts to wane in target shooting.

I like how this thread completely degenerated from such a good natured topic to a special olympics meme contest :)

You started it by taunting KirStang. He's real sensitive.

That and only six people on TFP actually like guns.

    I'm so roan-ree, oh so roan-ree...

Frankly, I'm pretty sensitive, too. That's why I liked going to classes with KirStang.

We'd go shoot holes in terrorist-shaped targets and talk about how it made us feel.

In the end, pistols are one of the few ways its cool to hang out with another dude.

Ya know... shooting them at paper targets. Or each other. Whatever you feel like.
