intellectual pornography

Wondering if anyone can recommend films which contain explicit and/ or gratuitous sex or nudity but are not "pornography" in the sense that they would still have merit if all the sex was removed. (i.e. good to moderately good acting, a compelling script etc. Things you'd expect to see in a regular movie)

My girlfriend and I are both interested in watching something like this, but neither of us find cheapo porn movies particularly stimulating.

I'm thinking of something like "eyes wide shut" but produced with the intention of being erotica.

Is this even the right thread? mods feel free to move

The end of "Sailor" was disturbing and will kill any erotic enjoyment. How about "Monster's Ball"? A naked, groaning Hallie Berry is not a bad thing.

 

Billy Bob Thorton is the reason Monster's Ball was less of a turn on than it could have been - for me anyway.

 

This is the problem I have with Hollywood and the MPAA. It is also why I think Playboy/Cinemax should work with a studio to make a real movie where there happens to be real sex and nudity.

The Black Swan movie is a good example. They could have done that movie and showed some nudity and sex like a normal Playboy/Cinemax movie, yet the story didn't center around it.

 

Last Tango in Paris also came to my mind. I'm not sure if these have enough gratuituos and explicit sex as what you might be looking for, but I would add The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down, Sex, Lies, and Videotape, In the Realm of the Senses, Wild Orchid, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, That Obscure Object of Desire...to name a few.

 

Perhaps you could give Pirates a try.
I know that X-art does the most quality stuff but i dont think its what your looking for in terms of storyline

 

The cable series Red Shoe Diaries might work for you. Nothing hardcore but sexual, for sure.

We like 9 1/2 weeks, too. Very erotic.

 

Well, I just did a quick search to confirm the exact name and film title for you to seek out, and I really got an eyeful.

If you don't mind subtitles, I suggest to you to see if you can find a proper and prompt viewing of Guardami (1999), starring Elisabetta Cavallotti.
Also, once that's done, report back as to how the film fared with you. (I have not seen the film, save for one very mind-melting scene of chaos.)

 

"9 Songs" - you can stream it on Netflix. Another one which you might find too sexy, but which is very sexy and pretty is "An Open Invitation"...The thing is, when you make a movie 'with the intention of being erotica', you should put some good sex in there. And one person's erotica is another person's porn, so I think you just have to try around and see what you like. Good, classy, erotic porn is hard to find but when you do, wow.

 

Speaking of David Dachovny , I forgot about Californication. It is one of my favorite shows.

 

The Dreamers is pretty good.

 

What I'm not clear on from reading the initial post a couple of times is if the OP wants high quality porn with a coherent plot or if he wants quality movies with fake sex scenes that look real.

 

I suppose you're right Poetry, it is a bit unclear, but I was more interested in the former.

 

Rob Black's Miscreants is supposed to be pretty amazing, but I haven't seen it myself. Eli Cross's Upload and Corruption were also a major award winners.

If I were you, I'd check out this list and watch some of the best director winners.

I was on the set for Star Wars XXX a couple of months ago and it's going to be awesome (it's releasing in January, so you'll have to wait), but I don't know if you're interested in parodies.

 

The third of Lust/Caution right before the last sixth of the film is immensely erotic.
