Since today is the start of free agency, I guess it is appropriate to start a new season's thread.

First major announcement was as expected, CP3 has re-signed with the Clippers for a max deal. 5 yrs/$107M.

I'm guessing Dwight Howard ends up with the Rockets.

GeneticShift Show me your everything is okay face.

I stopped caring about the Pistons years ago when they started trading away the 2004 wonderteam. Now that Tayshaun is gone as of January, I could give even fewer shits. But we'll see what happens. New coach, new year.

I would be happy enough just to see the Blazers make the playoffs this year. They went something like 23 years straight without missing them with serious shots at a second title in there, but have been fair to poor recently.

I liked watching them when they had Ben Wallace especially. I remember one of the TV announcers saying something like "You had better watch out, or he will drop a 20 board, 5 block, 2 point game on you." Rasheed Wallace was one of my favourite players in Portland as well, and having an opportunity to see him play was good.

Looked up information on the 39th pick Portland chose - Jeff Withey - and it was encouraging. Found this draft scouting report.

Only watched the first 6 minutes out of the 15 total, but he looks like a solid choice for that spot in the 2nd round. Drafting a player for their strong defensive skills sounds like a winner to me.

As I predicted, Dwight Howard ended up in Houston with the Rockets.

Probably the best fit for him. I don't think he'll ever be the force people predicted he would be. But he is a beast on D when healthy, and with Harden being the center of the offense maybe Dwight will excel down low. We'll see.
