I bought a pistol (Springfield XD(M) chambered in .40 S&W) last autumn, and due to various circumstances I haven't had much time to shoot it or figure it out. My question is this: What is the "zero" for this pistol? I think I read in the manual it was 25yds, but I could be mistaken. What about pistol zeros in general? Is it relatively uniform amongst all makes and models of pistol in a given caliber with a similar barrel length? As a rifleman, I'm used to adjustable peep sights and mil-holds with a SSDS. I saw a website that sold different sized sights for the XD(M) to suit your shooting style, but there has to be more to it than that. Anyway, sorry for the stupid question, but I appreciate the help (and being able to shoot accurately when I get home).

    As I've been told:

You don't adjust for elevation on a service pistol out to 25 yards (some say 50).

Point of aim is point of impact unless you're one of those match dorks.

That said, shooting a Glock at 50 yards is a huge waste of ammo.

Very well. I never really thought it would be that simple. Thanks, bud.

The advantage of interchangeable sight components on a service pistol are that you can pick the type of thing you wanna look at while lining up your shot. Some guys like flat black, some guys like all tritium, some guys like tritium front dots with flat black back, some guys like fiber optic, etc.

Gonna depend on the gun, honestly:

My Glock's a Sight Image 1 up to approximately 25 yards, while my P30 is more akin to sight picture 3.

And the shooter, apparently. I use "Sight Image 2" up to 25 yards on a G17 and G19. All high A-zone.

    FelixP,

I stand corrected. Turns out there are a huge variety of sights available for many different ranges depending on your particular make and model.

Test your Croatian rebrand at 25 yds. Reason why I pattern the same with a Glock at 7 as I do at 25 is because I game it at 25 (shoulder holdover).

So, yeah, I was way off. I should have let the 1911 market guide me: The aftermarket world is loaded with crazy shit, most of which you'll never need.

Still, main point is if you aim at high center mass on someone at 1 to 25 yards, you'll get a good solid USMC-approved "Kill bodies!" hit to the chest.
