Two prominent people, in the same city, in two days. That's either sloppy, or knowing you're going to get away with it.

    Followup…

Sudden Russian Death Syndrome — The Atlantic

A more extensive list of Russian VIP deaths for just THIS year.

Again, terrible “retirement” plan in Russia
Maybe even worse than the mafia

I know the Kremlin has done this forever
But Putin’s taken it to a whole new level.

Only one he hasn’t surpassed is Stalin
Let’s hope he doesn’t go that direction or scale.

The World Economy No Longer Needs Russia

    Putin has undermined himself.
All good will gain under his open predecessors, pulled.
He was too aggressive...showed his hand, made Europe wary and worried...and now they've covered their bases.

No future for Russia...not unless they can go Glasnost again without him.
But the rest of the world is tired of the oligarchs and have heard the Russian citizens and media supporting this war.
They're not going to forget soon.

And Russia better not rely on China..that's a dragon waiting to eat a bear.

Russia has lost 'strategically, operationally and tactically' in Ukraine, says US general – video — Guardian US

Besides the obvious getting their handed to them,
Loss of soldiers, equipment, $$$, etc…

Russia has show its hand in military capabilities
    Which SUCKS!

Except for nukes, right now they’ve shown their vaunted army is about as good vs the US
As when America defeated the Iraqi army in just 2 weeks.
(The 3rd largest at the time)

So the spiky puffer fish got deflated.

Putin is likely going to be in the same situation as Russia when it collapsed after the Cold War and Afghanistan.
    If not worse…

But it’s doubtful he’ll turn around and be Glastnost oriented like Gorbachev. He will likely double down and be spiteful.

The mighty bear has lost its teeth and claws,

I would say that with modern warfare, defensive positions are stronger than ever. Even the US wasn't able to take over Afghanistan and the population doubled during the war.

It will be interesting to see if Russia rebuilds their military based on nuclear deterrence and missiles instead of tanks and planes. I also have a feeling that Putin and the strongman style of politics will be in power once this is over and peace talks happen.

I can see Putin wanting to rebuild Russia's strong traditional armed forces, & using them. Like he wanted to do in Ukraine, but the next time with the desired results.

Missile destruction doesn't provide the same visuals as victorious troops marching through the streets in captured cities.

Russian jet's collision with U.S. drone sparks diplomatic flurry

NPD Trump wouldn't retaliate (stopped the action at nearly the last minute) against Iran because of possible civilian casualties.

Were we caught doing a no-no in the Black Sea?

Or is the price of a drone (again) acceptable to maintain peace?

Or was this a test, along the lines of many of our military exercises? We step across the line a bit, they step across the line a bit, repeat.

It was in International Waters, so no US bad.
Video now shows the Russian jets did multiple passes, including spraying jet fuel on the drone before damaging the propeler.
This is another Russian dick move.

Is recovery of the drone possible? The US, with the greatest interest in the drone not being recovered, says "very difficult." Russia, with the strongest interest in recovering the drone, says it's "possible."

    https://thehill.com/policy/defense/3902173-us-russia-on-the-hunt-for-downed-drone/

I'm guessing Russia will make a lot of noise about locating & retrieving the drone, but in reality their efforts will be minimal. My question is how far will Russia push this, esp if they find that pulling the drone is indeed impossible?

Some limited footage. I can't remove the huge gap. It has something to do with a link that contains an embedded YouTube video (this caused me problems before).

Putin arrest warrant issued over war crime allegations

Who's going execute (intentional word choice ;)) that arrest warrant?

BBC (no, not that ) News coverage note: There have been reports saying many UK banks are flush with money from Russian oligarchs, & some areas of London are now Little, or New, Russia.

Separating children from their parents. That sounds familiar.

Xi Jinping’s plan to annex Russian territory is there for all to see

    Yeah, no shit.
The Bear is about to get smoked by the Dragon.

Putin is going to put Russia in the same bind as when it overextended itself after Afghanistan.
And NATO & the US are playing the same game.
    Give weapons to the opposition.
    SSDD

Ironically, Russia may be sooner or later asking for help preventing he Chinese from taking land from it...

I have a feeling that China will be getting cheap resources from Russia for a long time. But the nuclear weapons threat could apply to any Chinese invasion into Russia as well. And I don't think that Russia would ever sell the far eastern parts to China either.

Nato's border with Russia doubles as Finland joins — BBC News

    Good.
Russia has got to figure out, that being a bully and a dick will backfire and cost them.

They we’re going the right way until Putin.
Now they lost everything and are starting back after the original Cold War ended.

Now we just need the Ukraine situation to come to a soft landing…in the right direction.

And perhaps Russia can get their head on right again.
    Here’s crossing our fingers.

Well, Putin has the rooster coming home to roost...

His own mercenary group,Wagner, is rebelling and heading to Moscow
Seems that "Putin's Chef" has an issue with the Minister of Defense & Chief of Staff lobbing missiles at his group. (LOTS of lies going around...finger pointing)

Russian citizens warned to stay indoors are filming within spitting distance of Wagner troops in Rostov-on-Don

Now the most surreal thing I've seen is the clip within of Russian civilians being VERY casual, watching military actions.

Just sit there lounging and videoing mercs with machine guns taking over one city's Defense military headquarters.
    Totally ignoring warning
Like they have no concerns about getting killed or wounded.

Sez something about life in Russia.

    Watch the clip

I wonder about the resistance by the Russian grunt soldiers, and the military's lower level decision makers.

    ****

Putin used a "more open" policy to influence Russians to accept, or at least tolerate, his mix of dictatorship and socialism. Some actually benefitted.

That "openess" is biting him in the ass. News suppressed in Russia is making its way out of Russia.

    Ok, it’s getting interesting
    And now becoming a crapshoot

Who knows how this is going to end up.

Surely, Ukraine will take advantage of this
And at least attempt to take back more of their territory

Question is will they also use it to take some Russian areas???
    Who knows

If I were Ukraine leaders, I’d just focus on getting back their own, no need to muddy the waters now.
Wagner is doing their psych work for them.

Plus, that keeps the international community more on their side staying in borders.
Before it was a need to push back on Russia but now there’s a civil war scenario

The reason Ukraine got all the help was sovereignty
They have the moral on their side.

The next question is what do the other Russian oligarchs do? Do they support Putin? Or go against him?
    Again, it’s a crapshoot

I don’t think the citizens have any say.
But the military is thinner now, been used in the Ukraine.

    Definitely an unexpected twist.
