Shooting with Your Lover

    Happy Valentine's Day everyone.

Do you ever go shooting with the one you love?
    What gun does he/she prefer?

My friend took a photo of my husband and I when we went shooting in a desert canyon over break. Thought this would be a good place to share it. I successfully hit a soda can. It exploded.

My wife loves to shoot, mostly rifles, particularly little .22s.

Funny story from the first time she ever touched a gun. We (her and I, plus my buddy and his wife) were up at a friend's cabin for the weekend, out in the woods. He and I were messing around outside shooting. There was a large woodpile we were using as a backstop and we were just shooting at some Pepsi cans, stale marshmellows, and cartridge boxes from about 30-35 yards. The girls come out and my buddy asks my wife if she'd like to shoot. She kind of hesitates and starts to refuse, saying she's never even touched a gun before and was kind of scared of them. We convince her that she'll be fine and she eventually agrees. She picks an old Marlin .22 with iron sights to shoot with. We run through the basics of safety, how the sights line up to aim, how to make the gun go boom, and hand it over to her. She stands off-hand and says she is going to aim at the Pepsi can laying on the ground with it's end to us. POP! She nails it and it kicks in the air. "THAT WAS FUN!" she says. We tell her to do it again. SEVENTEEN straight shots she nails that Pepsi can! Worst form in the world, never touched a gun before, and nails a target that size every freaking time until the tube is empty. Not that it's an incredible feat from that distance, but she's never touched a gun before! My buddy is laughing and going crazy about it, calling her Annie Oakley.

Me? I told her she was never allowed to touch a gun again, for fear of my own safety. :p

Well, after my divorce I decided to stop training my women in firearms.

You know, so I wouldn't have to worry about splitting up the arsenal when we broke up.

I'm sure as hell not taking a woman to court over my Glock collection.

    ...

My biggest hurdle to "shooting with a partner" has been time and interest. She works a million hours and when I go away to work, I'm gone. I did take DamnitAll to the target range once. Didn't work out like planned, but something tells me that she'd be a crack shot with some more training.

If I had a quiet place to shoot outside where she could relax, it'd be a lot easier. Too bad I live in suburban hell with shitty NRA ranges.

The GF only shoots .22s. That's about it. At least she's willing to shoot and not secretly planning on melting my weapon collection.

Oh, if only I'd stayed awake for another two hours to follow this thread.

Hmm. He has no patience to shoot with me.:(
I like to go out with a couple of friends from work. We buy bowling pins off of ebay and hang them. Well really its been awwhile since we did that. Miss it.
I prefer the Smith and Wesson 38 Bodyguard. It's perfect for me, nice size, easy to load and fits in my purse so nicely and it's all black.
The shot gun was the first thing I ever shot. Kicked my ass.

Yea. I don't even introduce my guy friends in to shooting with a shotgun. Usually too punishing.

  13. I enjoy shooting with my wife. We don't make it a competition, which is good because she is a better shot on targets. We shoot a lot of 22s because its cheap. Every now and I shoot 50cal. My wife won't shoot it. I think shooting together is great foreplay. Or after-play.

Does the whole "lover" thing remind anyone else of the saturday night live sketch with will ferrel and rachel dratch keep calling each other 'lover' and talk about their various past sexual escapades?

Annnnyway. Yes I have taken my gf shooting, she is tiny, but still enjoyed shooting my 9mm handguns and also my AR-15 (we sort of had to benchrest the AR-15 though because it's so heavy to her). She still lives with her parents who are anti-gun so she doesn't own one yet, but when she moves out she probably will.

I think it is important to teach one's female companion how to shoot. I may get shot or killed in some sort of incident and she may have to use my gun to defend herself.

Didn't see that skit, but something about people using that horrid term makes the skin on my scrotum shrivel up.

    ...

As a guy who has taken a few ladies to the range and who prides himself on being relatively capable with firearms in general:

Pay someone else to train your partner. They will never listen to you the same way they listen to a stranger.

For serious. Not kidding. It'll save a ton of headaches in the long run if you send your sidekick to a legit class or three.

I have wet dreams about sending my woman to some high end pistol instruction. And her shooting better than I do.

I invited a few friends shooting last fall, two of who were a couple. My friend Matt has been shooting once before with me, His girlfriend had never fired a gun. She started out flinching every time someone fired a shot nearby. Matt reassured her, and after a few minutes of watching us one of the ROs greeted us, welcomed us to the range, and made sure to assure her that it was perfectly normal to jump at loud sounds if you're not used to shooting, and to spend a bit of time acclimating to it and then try something small first. We started everyone on the single shot .22 until they were comfortable then moved them up. By the end of the day, Matt was nailing soda cans at 50 yards with 12ga magnum loads and Lindsay was hitting them with a Mosin Nagant M44.

This isn't the story of me with a lover shooting, but Matt and ?Lindsay are engaged now and we've all mentioned that it would be fun to go again.

I was at a range in Tucson with my nephew and brother in law. A group came in, consisting of a bride and her maids. Part of the bachelorette party was a trip to the range and an impromptu shooting competition. I thought it was a pretty cool idea.

That would totally rock. I love shooting with my hubs. Of course, I get to break down and clean both guns when we're done. Ha ha. I have a Walther PPS, he has a Glock 17. We both shoot better with "Walter," my bodyguard boyfriend. Walter and I are tight. And the hubs likes to shoot him, too. It's an awesome piece.

    That would be awesome if
    A) I had a lover, and
    B) He was okay with guns.

(Although, if B isn't present - A is just for the sex.)
