"You should not judge a dog by it's hair."

The title is translated from Finnish/Swedish saying. Similar phrase in English would be: "Never judge a book by its cover."

I have three cats, one black, one white and third one has mostly white hair, but the back and tail is a mixture of gray and brown hair, when you look at it closely.

I'm sure all these cats lose equally much of their hair, but white and black hair seem to be of different quality. White hair is softer, black hair more rough. I never seem to notice black hair lying around much, but the white hair sticks to clothes, sofas and other furniture. It's hard to get off the fabric even by vacuuming.

My sister has a dog with white and grey/black hair and she confirms, it's the same with her dog.

Have you noticed this in your pets?

Our cats are different colors, and one has longer hair than the other. One tends to shed in clumps, the other just sheds. However, they don't shed a whole bunch except in spring and they're super-soft.

If you take some tape and wrap it around your hand sticky side out, then pat your clothes/sofa with it you can remove the majority of hair pretty quickly.

White hair seems to show more on clothes and furniture, but I would have to say I get an equal amount of different colored hair up my nose, regardless. heh.

On our dogs (now dog), the undercoat is softer and lighter in color than the outer hair. We notice more of it on the floors and brushes.

Even faster for furniture: put on a latex glove and rub it over the furniture. The hair will clump up and be more easily removed with the tape technique/a lint roller/you picking it up/the vacuum.

My JR is white with large brown patches (he's a wire hair) and all I see are white hairs all over. I'm going to try that latex glove thing.

My aunt has a long haired white cat, and her solution to the shedding problem was to buy a white sofa and chair, so that the fur didn't show.
Until someone with dark pants/skirt sits on the chair...

The only solution is constant vacuuming, and brushing. Or get stuffed animals and pretend
