I know some of you must be watching this series and wanted to see what you think.

It took me a little less than a week (though I would preferred to binge it down in 12 or so hours) but I made it through the series.

Holy crap, it was good. I am still thinking about it a week later.

I had read volumes one and two of the collected series, but not the part with the Purple Man. I figured I would save myself something. In short, I really liked the print stories and the creation of this new "superhero" from whole cloth. Jessica is a fascinating study of the grittier edge of on one hand being a superhero (PTSD is common amongst first responders) and of victims of rape (she is fresh from being kidnapped and held against her will, and more).

She's damaged and her raw edges are on display.

In the books she is friends will Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) which is especially interesting given her own experience with kidnapping and rape.

As for the TV show, I thought the casting of Luke Cage and the Purple Man were spot on. I am looking forward to seeing Cage in his own series. Krysten Ritter as Jessica was excellent as well.

So what do you think? Are you watching? Have you read the books? Do you like the dark direction of Marvel's Netflix series? Do you want to see more Jessica Jones?

Note: this is a Netflix series, spoilers ahead!

I meant to start a thread myself.

Watched the whole thing in one sitting, something I really don't recommend to most folks.
I know members here aren't all about trigger warnings but if you have issues with the emotional damage that comes with rape and abuse, just a heads up.

Otherwise, this is an amazing show.
In some ways better than Daredevil and I was damned impressed with DD.
It came down to the Krysten Ritter's performance as JJ and most of David Tennant's as Killgrave.
I would say The Purple Man has to be hands down the scariest, best villain in the MCU at this point.

I thought it was a good story. Well cast. Well acted.

Not a huge comic fanboy. I barely know who Luke Cage is. Fairly recently, I was surprised to learn that Captain Marvel was a women. A bit after my time. My point being (other than I'm getting old) is that I have no idea how true to story these character are, but they worked for me.

We're in the middle of the last episode. I'm going to go through withdrawals. Even though I hate David Tennant. His demented squirrel face makes me want to punch him on most roles, this one more than most. I find this show fascinating. Almost as fascinating as Blondie Boy's weird upper lip.

    Well done

Very real...for a show about people with powers.

It was SO FUCKING GOOD!!! I watched it in about three sittings, and if I could've spared the time to marathon it in one go, I would've. Krysten Ritter was fantastic, the dude who played Luke Cage was excellent, and David Tennant was amazing-- absolutely fucking amazing-- as Kilgrave. Well written, well directed, well shot, and the story and its execution was magnificently brutal. The whole season was a gorgeous emotional shredder. If anything, I liked it even better than Daredevil.

Marvel is kicking a vast amount of ass.

I loved it. I'm still amazed Marvel was willing to adapt this character for TV even if it is Netflix. They changed a few things about the character but the meat stayed there. I think they did a very admirable job in covering rape and ptsd. It'll be interesting to see how Marvel handles Luke Cage, Black Panther and Iron Fist next.

I really liked Episode 7. It was a huge turning point. The series has been enthralling so far, though I've found the writing gets sloppy/rushed at times. Thankfully the actors are more than capable of good performances despite what they had to work with.

I can't decide if I liked Jessica Jones better than Daredevil.

Next is Luke Cage I think, and then Iron Fist, and then the Defenders? I think I read that we're working up to that. At the rate things are going the Defenders might end up at Todd McFarlane levels of grimdark.

I think there will be Daredevil 2, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones 2 before there is an Iron Fist or Defenders.

I know they have hired the show runner for Iron Fist, so it seems to be going ahead.

Luke Cage is rocking the house.
The acting is amazing, the music sets the tone perfectly and the writing while slow in spots is really good.

Oh hell, yeah! to both Luke Cage and Jessica Jones!
Thank you, @redravin for tugging this thread back up, as I intended to comment on JJ previously.

Luke Cage debuted last night. Have only watched the first episode so far, but it is solid. Great world-building that really had me leaning in, trying to take it all in.

Jessica Jones is SO good--truly binge-worthy, though as @BarakaGuru says, the writing, especially prior to episode 7, is a bit sloppy sometimes. Krysten Ritter as Jessica was a new discovery--I fell in love with her which makes it very difficult to wait for season 2, knowing it has been filmed already. No firm premiere date but rumored to be debuting in 2018(!)

I'm not a Marvel fan per se. I was raised on DC though have no allegiance--just more familiarity.

I don't care if a televised show was once in comic book form. Utterly different mediums, but I enjoy both depending on which one we are discussing.

I mainlined Luke Cage, just shot the entire show straight into the vein.
Looking back I'm thinking it wasn't such a great idea.
Some of the show were more like Wu-Tang albums, kind of free form and meant to be listened to when you have a little time to pay attention to the details.
There was time when it felt like the show dragged compared to Daredevil or JJ but then I realized it was because they had just put out whole lot of pretty complicated ideas that would be missed if you weren't paying attention
In fact I'm probably going to go back and rewatch some of the show something I don't do very often.

Holy crap! I totally would've done that too!
I had a feeling that some of the show would be given over to the atmospheric and I'm good with that but the story-lovin' side of me could get antsy. Good to hear from a binge veteran. Will probably take it week by week.

Been loving it so far...excellently played.
As I said on FB...In the episode, where they show his origin...
The cuffs and headband are a great tribute to his original comicbook costume. (remember this from years back...been a Power Man fan since my childhood)
    They have my respect.

Thanks for posting about Luke Cage's series starting. I forgot all about it starting this month.
As for Jessica Jones, I really was impressed with Krysten Ritter's performance, as I've not been a big fan of her work until JJ.
I was also impressed with the badness of Tennant's role in that I really wanted someone to break Killgraves' neck multiple times throughout the series.
Definitely one of the best, if not *the* best, villain in the MCU.

As for JJ's backstory/history, I wasn't familiar with her at all, even though I'm an old school Power Man & Iron Fist fan.
She came along after I quit comics, it seems. I've since read wikipedia's page on her and am looking forward to more of her story.

Speaking of powers, (looks down at the chili that just plopped on my shirt) I wish I had the power to eat neatly all the while typing with one hand.

I just finished the series this afternoon.

Did anyone else see when Misty Claire took the number off the flyer for martial arts lessons with Colleen Wing? That was cool. I just read that Misty will not be in Iron Fist. What's up with that? She should be dating Danny.

I am hoping that Pop's Barbershop will become the headquarters for Heroes for Hire. I know they aren't heading in that direction, but it would have been cool.
