I know some of you must be watching this series and wanted to see what you think. It took me a little less than a week (though I would preferred to binge it down in 12 or so hours) but I made it through the series. Holy crap, it was good. I am still thinking about it a week later. I had read volumes one and two of the collected series, but not the part with the Purple Man. I figured I would save myself something. In short, I really liked the print stories and the creation of this new "superhero" from whole cloth. Jessica is a fascinating study of the grittier edge of on one hand being a superhero (PTSD is common amongst first responders) and of victims of rape (she is fresh from being kidnapped and held against her will, and more). She's damaged and her raw edges are on display. In the books she is friends will Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) which is especially interesting given her own experience with kidnapping and rape. As for the TV show, I thought the casting of Luke Cage and the Purple Man were spot on. I am looking forward to seeing Cage in his own series. Krysten Ritter as Jessica was excellent as well. So what do you think? Are you watching? Have you read the books? Do you like the dark direction of Marvel's Netflix series? Do you want to see more Jessica Jones? Note: this is a Netflix series, spoilers ahead!
