I don't see kids getting "traumatized" by giving them access to TV, video games, the internet, YouTube, and a unch of other distractions. Even if they came up with outdoor activities to do with friends, it isn't that bad.

But he is right about 2021 or even 2022 before things get back to normal if the vaccine works, but takes time to distribute.

‎Las Vegas is a ghost town; even the strippers are saying, 'Sorry, we're clothed'

What doesn’t go in Vegas, nothing stays in Vegas

Must be a strange place to be now
Not in a good way it was before

5 day package including flight & room is only $250
Not that it’s worth the risk.

Nor do ya want to be gambling
Considering we don’t know what is coming
It’s still screwing with the economy too.
Not a bet I would take...

I still can't get my head around what's been going on with the crime spike in New York (NBC News, Wall Street Journal [paywall], WaPo), particularly on the Upper West Side—my college years stomping grounds—in the wake of a hotel being used for homeless housing to ease overcrowding in shelters due to the pandemic (NY Times). I haven't been following the details super closely, but it sounds like what I remember hearing about of crime-ridden NYC in the 80s.

@cynthetiq, what do things actually look like to someone that's actually living there?

@DamnitAll people don't want it to go back to what it was, so any uptick makes them think OMFG it's turning to hell. I moved here in 91 and that's when there were still squeegee men at every red light and you paid so that they didn't touch your car. To give you an idea as to how fast they made money, one night I was short for my $20 cab ride home and while I was extended credit from the livery guys who knew me none were there that night. I wasn't sure how I was going to get back home in NJ. So I happened to be friends with many street people which gave me some juice with other people. One of the squeegee guys knew me and I told him my predicament. He acquired $20 in about 15 minutes.

Okay back to present day, I live in the LES. Crime is up here, but crime has always been around. I live near lots of NYCHA housing.

NYPD is pissed at De Blasio, they didn't like him much to begin with. They disbanded the anti-crime unit because it is one of the most aggressive and racist units. NYPD is being accuess of a "worker slowdown". Shootings are up in some of the worst neighborhoods.

I don't feel unsafe when I go out. BUT I don't take the trains or buses because of COVID. I'm driving around on my own.

In atlanta they had, yes i said had what they called waterboys at busy intersections. they would sell you a bottle of water for $1. which is a good deal but after some violence the mayor put a stop to them, every now and then you will see one but not often now

Since April my we've been told to work from home, and to come in once every other week to the office to do things we can't do remotely. Now with the covid situation in Sweden looking pretty positive we're going to work two days a week at the office. I feel a little torn about it. In one way it's nice to see your co-workers more again, but I enjoy working from home to limit the risk of catching the virus. But I suppose since we're not seeing a second surge like the rest of Europe, working more in the office isn't increasing the risk too much. I'm still staying the fuck away from the lunch room though.

Are they requiring masks in the public areas of the office? Our company allows removal of the mask when you're in your office or at your desk. Outside of that, you must wear a mask. The building we're in requires the same, mask at all times in public areas.

There are no mask requirements no. Masks are very rare in Sweden and not mandated anywhere since the view is that wearing a mask could create a false sense of security and have people go out with masks when they have minor symptoms. The recommendations are instead to keep distance, wash regularly and stay home at the slightest sign of illness. It makes daycare a pain in the ass I can assure you, since kids have runny noses and coughs ALL THE TIME.

had to decide to let my daughter go back to school or keep her home...

was a tough decision, but in the end we decided to keep her home. we are in a position where my wife can be home most of the time with her if their is a problem or she has a question. i know that most of the school is their but in her grade i know that their are a total of 6 (including her) that are going to continue remote learning. i hope we made the right decision. The school has not had a positive case in 3 weeks which is good but made the decision harder.

side note.... My wife is more concerned about after winter break going back. you will have lots of people traveling and such so we will figure that one out come january

my company requires one if you deal with customers. I personally do not wear one here at work. in my building it is just me and another guy.

IMHO the right decision is what you're comfortable with and can deal with. If she can study from home and you guys can help her when she needs it, it's good decision.

Here schools from kindergarden up to 16 years is going on as normal, while higher education is mostly remote. The reasoning being that kids doesn't seem to be a major cause of spreading the virus (teachers here hasn't gotten sick more than any other group of people) and that kids need the social contact with their friends. I have to admit it's a little weird sending them away to school knowing an epidemic is going on, but so far so good.

I am sick and got tested for COVID yesterday. Got a negative result back today. I also requested a flu test and that was negative, but I don’t know what strains it tested for. I feel like I have the flu - started out stuffy with a sore throat day 1, moved onto cough, congestion, sore throat, feverish/chills, body aches and severe headache on day 2, vomited that night and was totally unable to keep anything down the next day (the day I went to urgent care, bf had to take me). At urgent care I had a fever of 101, flu test was negative so they ordered COVID test and of course testing site was closed for the day so I had to go the next morning. Just got medication for the nausea. I continued vomiting whenever I had more than a sip of water throughout that day (so fun) until 2 doses of zofran allowed me to keep 3 or 4 saltines down.

Luckily the nausea has subsided but now I have a chesty cough on top of the congestion. Body aches and headache are better, too. Sometimes I feel like I need to totally quit caffeine because when I get sick, I’m never sure if it’s caffeine withdrawal or a sick headache.

I still feel (and sound and look) like absolute crap, though. I’m supposed to start my new job on Monday, though CDC says not to return to work for 10 days even with a negative test result if you’ve had COVID symptoms since there’s still almost a 30% false negative rate with nasal swab like I had. If I were a patient, I’d want to be nowhere near me.. and if I medicate myself to be totally asymptomatic, I will be such a space cadet I won’t remember a single thing from my orientation. I just wish my new boss would respond with a new start date so I don’t have to worry about getting other people sick!

I hope your new boss is understanding. I know I wouldn't want you to come in if you're showing symptoms.

Wishing you the best of luck and an over abundance of positive vibes.

personally i think it needs to be the same across the board as far as testing and results. each job, state, school seems like its all different.
