ring mentioned 'rooftop acreage'. Yes - I kind of know that from films, but there is not much of that in my English neck of the woods. Let's face it, between the lot of us, I bet we cover many different types of scenery and buildings. This can include the overall scene, parts of the scene, and exteriors and interiors of buildings.

For example: Come along with me and we're ...

Walking along the River Thames to Richmond ... here is the house which Baroness Orczy considered to the home of Sir Percy Blakeney ... the Scarlet Pimpernel.

Sir Percy's house behind us, we approach Richmond bridge ... this is stitched together from a set of pictures; Click on it and it will blow up a bit bigger.

Approaching Richmond bridge, you can turn left into this covered way .. go up the stairs, turn round and look back and this is what you see. These stairs and arch are odd, because before you turn into them, it is as if you are going into a 'proper building', rather than a fancily fronted stairway. That boat is a floating restaurant.

Here are some rowers passing the landing stage where they hired their boat.

Look! There's that floating restaurant seen from the top of the bridge.

Walking across the bridge, here is a house and boat on the other side
    [IMG]

So ... take us on a tour or point out a highlight or two; either way ... thank you :)

I might try to capture a walking tour of this quiet town just for this thread. I suspect that when a good majority of those building in your wonderful shots were built that this valley was still just a summer camping ground for the local indians.

Today, were going on a Gondola ride around Venice, Italy.

First we have to line-up a bit.

Captain, Plan, I go out for a walk, I come back, I am blown away.

CaptainBob ... that was a tour ... I mean, I get to go each step of the way. Never been to Venice and probably never will, Best I've done is rowing on the Thames ... and believe me, there's no rest ... so it's special. Thanks :)

Plan9 ... Now you airlifted us all over the place and Feck ... those are amazing places

Speed_Gibson Thanks for your nice words, and I sure am looking forward to your tour of your town.

I had trouble working out the title for the thread, because there's Things in places, as well as the buildings and natural stuff in them. Sometimes they stick out like a ... like a magnificent thumbs, and sometimes they need to be embedded in a tour.

Heck. thank y'all so much. My post-walk-soon-to-be-published-in-tilted-what-'ve-you-had-for-dinner-sausage and mash with baked onion is going to be luxury.

    Best wishes :)

They put so much detail in it. I'm not even quite sure what it houses...

Even the elevator is amazing! The walls inside are nothing but Italian marble.

-Lacy- on Monument Circle. I don't know what's in here either.

I don't care much for exterior architecture. Love interior design/architecture though. My favorites are:

    1. Le Meridien @ Dubai Airport (Lounge)

The exterior of the Le Meridien is fairly plain and simple, but the lounge rocks. It looks much bigger when sitting in the area and, with the location right across the street from Dubai's Terminal 1 & 3, it is very conveniently located for business travels. I've had countless meetings in the lounge and stays at the hotel, and will be there again in mid-January for the same routine.

    2. Burj Khalifa | a.k.a Burj Dubai / World's Tallest Building (Apartment)

I was strongly considering moving into the below-pictured place, but for multiple reasons it made more sense to just go to a furnished place in Dubai Marina, which is where I'll very likely move to in 6-7 months. Still, I am in love with the design of its interior. See it here: http://www.dubaifurnishedrentals.co...alifa/furnished-1-bedroom-apartment-2160.html

Had to do a brief search but that told me that AED 165,000 yearly for rent comes out to $44,923.56 for that one bedroom. Is that place similar to Bahrain where the taxis are Mercedes?

As I said in your blog entry, I'd love to get drunk with you. We won't have any of that Double Ovaries or Triple Penetration stuff you like, but we'll make do with the fancy crap.

No fondling/cuddling, though. I recommend ZombieSquirrel for you.

Yeah, the dirham is pegged to the dollar at a rate of 3.67 AED per US Dollar. Burj Khalifa is pretty much the most expensive area in Dubai. Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Lake and Palm Jumeirah rank below it and a good furnished place can be found for 80,000AED/year (~ USD22,000). Cheaper options also available.

If Lish has been to Dubai, he can testify: The taxis are fucking horrible in Dubai (and generally the UAE). The cars are fairly decent Toyotas, but the imported drivers will rob you of your sanity.

Honestly, though... Dubai is a shit place to live in. I've already lived there for 2 years back in 2008-2010, and I hated it. It looks fancy, you can eat eat/shop well and party hard... but that's it. There's nothing there, a truly fake city made for some spoiled Arab brats. Weren't it for business reasons, not even an awesomesauce place like that one in Burj Khalifa would compel me to live there again. Not worth a stay beyond 2 weeks.

They are the entrance to an a new space from where you are now and typically are a reflection of what is enclosed in that space.
The Secret Garden comes to mind; the door the children discover is abandoned and forgotten, much like the garden had been after the boys' mother died.

yes, they do seem to pose a certain potential for mystery sometimes.
plus they are (often) rectangular in shape. and placing them in the center of your (typically) rectangular photo format lends a sort of telescopic effect that is interesting sometimes.
