That does seem like a big mistake. But, I think there need to be pandemic rules just like the DoD has war time rules.

If you were in Brazil or India right now, and could see that other 1st world countries were using the vaccine successfully (for the most part), would you want this vaccine? I don't think it is right to punish the general public for a mix-up or testing problem. Maybe the different dose data is helpful in determining the actual effective dose based on people's weight and size at the end of the day?

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

That's a fair argument and given the crisis situation in some countries, would argue that they should use it.
But here, where we have 3 already approved effective vaccines available in abundance I would pass.

My wife & I were grocery shopping yesterday when they made an announcement the pharmacy had Phizer 1st vaccinations with no waiting. We were signed up and vaccinated in about 25 minutes, and followed the instructions and stayed around for 15 minutes after the shots.

My wife ran a fever, I didn't feel any different (that I noticed). We're scheduled for Phizer 2nd on May 23.

In an Indian city, obituaries reveal missing coronavirus deaths and untold suffering — The Washington Post

I’m hearing about it a bit from coworkers in India
They’re trying to be polite and calm in meetings
But you can tell they’re nervous and it’s affecting them.

People forget, India was fine for a long time
Then it exploded in the past few months

The US and the rest of the world trying to gear up should be aware...it can change fast.

It behooves us to keep doing safe activities
Again, because the crud doesn’t care.

Even with the shot, I’m wary of large volumes of people inside.

Anyway, the shots help...but we’re not out of the woods yet...

Freetofly Diving deep into the abyss

I tried to quote @rogue49 ...lol not sure where it went.

But anyway I like Uncle Ted, he has never changed over the years. At least he did not try to hide the fact that he had contracted the virus.
There are plenty of Republicans that I know that have happily gotten the vaccine. The news distorts everything. And hey Mark Zuckerberg even question the safety of the vaccine in one of his daily teams meeting. If you know where to look...clinical trails, medical journals there is a lot of good data being published.

Pfizer and Moderna have been working with mRNA for 20 years. This link is an excellent article with very good references on the discovery of mRNA.
It takes time and effort to get all the facts.

Who discovered messenger RNA? - ScienceDirect

Anyway, it is going to cost me and Zen about $800 dollars in testing in order to come to the USA and return to the UK this June.
They are given even one their 2nd shot around 12 weeks after the first, so I'm due to get mine the week before I travel, which sucks.

Why does it suck to get the shot a week before you travel? Why are they waiting 12 weeks? I heard that was what was going on in Australia, but thought that was because they needed to stretch out the limited supply.

I wonder what the guidance is on vaccinating foreigners and undocumented immigrants in the US? The lines are pretty short now.

What experts are saying about masking, COVID-19 vaccine durability | WTOP

    The key is...get vaccinated.

If you get it...you won't give it to others...it's unlikely you'll get it and even IF you do, you still won't die or be hospitalized.

If you don't...you potentially hurt yourself...and others.

    6-8 million???
I guess I was being overly conservative by adding only 20% more to counts.

God knows how many have been impacted.
Unfortunately, it's not just undercounting by neglect or being overwhelmed...but much is by intent, covering up.
    --- Double Post Merged, May 24, 2021 ---
And here it pops up again...and gaining some momentum.
    Lately, multiple credible sources
Fauci Says He’s ‘Not Convinced’ COVID-19 Developed Naturally, Calls for Further Investigation

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...or-paul-dr-fauci-flap-over-wuhan-lab-funding/

Opinion: Congress is finally investigating the lab accident covid-19 origin theory

The Taboo On the Coronavirus Lab-Leak Theory Lifts | National Review

I still say, it's origins are natural nor manipulated by humans...BUT it was being studied in the Wuhan lab and it leaked out.
(not intentional, but by accident...and I'd say, not by neglect...but the stuff just got out through vents or such)
Air or aerosol transferred viruses are very difficult to keep. (it's invisible, flowing, easily distributed)

China (the government not the people) needs to allow full access and be transparent...stop manipulating and covering up.
If it's truly the market...so be it. They're off the hook.
BUT, they're not...and they're still repressing how many people actually died back then.

Meanwhile, time moves on...further obscuring what really happened
And giving more time for those with an agenda to purge things that might help find out.

My wife & I got our second Phizer shots on Sunday.

We still wear masks indoors (obviously not at home), and outdoors in crowds.

I'm not convinced the full reopenings and relaxing of mask requirements is wise; I hope that my concerns prove unfounded.

I went to the grocery store today. About 70% of the people had masks on still. And I bet those 70% are the ones who are vaccinated, even though the signs say that if you are vaccinated you don't need to wear a mask.

We're getting the same around here.

Most likely to have on a mask to least likely, based on my unscientific observations in my area of town: Latinos, blacks, whites.

I was a irritable for a few hours after my 2nd Phizer shot, but that was compounded by my wife also being irritable at the same time.

You should check with your doctor,
because feeling the effects four days later
    doesn't sound right.

The biggest failure of the pandemic was the belief that Americans would magically band together and listen to experts to fight a major national threat. Will we learn anything?

Yep, many of us are basically a bunch selfish shits.
    Some ignorant and not aware.

BUT there is a certain portion of the public and leadership that’s acting out of spite and rebellion.

I’m not concerned about ignorance or some selfish
    There’s always this.

However, it’s the brats using it to make a point I worry about. They’re actually destructive.
A bunch of bullies pushing the harm of others.

They need to be dealt with, IMHO

@Ralphie, Holy Shit are you spot on. We only band together if there's a physical threat to the country, otherwise, it's every one for themselves. I love the Black Friday stories of people beating the crap out of each other over a fucking toy. What a joke we are.
