This is known. It's so known in fact it is officially a trope.

TNG doesn't really kick off until season 3 which coincidentally is when Frakes grew out his beard. Hence a show that starts a bit shaky but then finds its stride is said to have "grown the beard." Pretty much every series but Strange New Worlds suffers from it to some degree, and SNW has its own problems.

That said, season 2 did give us Measure of a Man which is easily the best episode of the series.

We have to give credit for TNG in trying to correct the mistakes the original series made, as progressive as they tried to be. It's been a while since I've watched TNG, but the only cringe-worthy moment I remember is the underwhelming death of Tasha Yar. She got a death as casual as any red shirt on the original series.

Also, if you're a Sopranos fan you'll enjoy this mashup:

I like Patrick Stewart. A great actor, & he told some great stories when he was on the various talk shows.

    On a lighter note...
When I see a really bad scene in the original series featuring William Shatner I try to imagine that scene with Jack Lord as Kirk. Apparently Lord was considered for the role    .

I heard a story (no idea if it's true, but sounds plausible) that on the set of Star Trek: Generations, Shatner was a complete prima donna, showing up last, first one out the door and demanding constant script rewrites. When he would leave, Stewart would launch into a mockery of him.

Stewart was pretty jovial in the interviews I've seen (honestly just a few), so I wouldn't be surprised he had some fun mocking Shatner.

A Stewart story, not related to ST.
On a talk show PS discussed going to a political event here in the US. He said his politics favored Labor because he grew up working class/working poor. He was surprised to realize he was grinning & waving enthusiastically when George W. Bush appeared. Note: This was much better told by the man himself.

If you're a Trekkie you must, must find a way to get to the Star Trek Tour.

This is an incredible reproduction of the original Enterprise set.
Shatner visits regularly; in fact he will be there in 2 weeks.
We went a couple of months ago and met Brent Spiner and George Takei.
It's a magical place for Trekkies. A bit remote, sure, but worth the trip.
Combine it with a visit to the Adirondack mountains or Montreal.

Tomorrow one of the free antenna TV channels is going play selected ST episodes showcasing Walter Koenig, & on Monday STNG showcasing Patrick Stewart.

$4K to hang out with Shatner? I wonder how much it'd cost to hang out with Takei; he seems far cooler and less of an egomaniac.

I wouldn't mind going just to get a pic posing on the set.

I also wonder how elaborate they get into with the set. Do the buttons work? Does anything light up? Do they pipe in through speakers the general ambience of the bridge? (In the technical manual for the Next Generation, there's a comment by Michael Okuda that visitors to the bridge set complain that something is missing. He knows that they're not hearing that faint "rumble" in the background that represents the warp engines in action.

Of course, that's all added in later in post-production.

/end rant from experienced video editor ;)
