    TNG doesn't really kick off until season 3 which coincidentally is when Frakes grew out his beard. Hence a show that starts a bit shaky but then finds its stride is said to have "grown the beard." Pretty much every series but Strange New Worlds suffers from it to some degree, and SNW has its own problems.

    That said, season 2 did give us Measure of a Man which is easily the best episode of the series.
