what do you know about the book "Blood Meridian"?

It's somewhere on my reading list. From what I know besides the plot/setting: it's an underrated work (at least originally) of modern American literature. Upon the vehicle of historical fiction, there are elements of satire and the grotesque. It's not a straight-ahead Western, so expect to be challenged. It's supposed to be brilliant. Are you going to read it or are you trying to make sense of it?

In that case, I think it's a no-brainer. Let me know what you think of it.

I'm not sure which is more interesting, the way things are or they way things are perceived.

I need to dismantle the fence and build a raft out of it. Or a dirigible.

Okay, they're not "cutting up" the street in front of my apartment; they're DRILLING it, and it's shaking the building. My dog LOVES it....

One of my past dog friends (named Thunder)
        was terrified of thunder.
She couldn't fit under the bed, so I fashioned a shelter for her out of blankets over a few chairs.
It seemed to help a bit.

They're cutting up the street in front of my apartment. I wonder if it's for that fancy cross-town transit thing they're doing.

The details of my life are quite inconsequential. But very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen-year-old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical — summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring, we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent, I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds — pretty standard, really. At the age of twelve, I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it —
