OK weezer wins the internet, you can all quit trying now.

This is like "We are the World" meets "The Ultimate Showdown"

see how many references you get :)

RetroGunslinger 05-23-2008 09:20 PM

I'm pretty mad that I got about 98% of those references.

Martian 05-23-2008 10:35 PM

I get most of the references, although some went over my head.

Brian Bell's Thinline Tele is fucking sexy.

LoganSnake 05-23-2008 10:45 PM

How did they get all those people to contribute to the video?

Awesome.

Shauk 05-23-2008 11:48 PM

stunt doubles I think.

Getting close for the release date of their upcoming album "Weezer (Red Album)", Weezer has just premiered the music video for their new single from the set, titled "Pork & Beans" on May 23. The new clip, which was shot by director Mathew Cullen, is a unique one as it features lots of spoofs from popular YouTube videos.

Beside that, on the video Mathew also taps some popular celebrities of YouTube community such as Tay "Chocolate Rain" Zonday, Chris "Save Britney" Cooper, Miss Teen USA contestant Lauren Caitlin to appear on it. Another famous names that was also being featured on the clip is Britney Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Martian 05-24-2008 12:00 AM

Money.

I'd imagine more than a few would do it for a relatively low amount just for the privilege of being in a Weezer video. Combine that with a bit of creative editing and you're good.

Oh, and the song is Pork and Beans, and will be on their new album coming out this summer.

EDIT - twistedmosaic beat me to it, and did research stuff instead of just guessing too.

Shauk 05-24-2008 12:06 AM

I find the Ms South Carolina Girl to be distractingly hot compared to the rest of the video. God help me I'm incurably single. *facepalm*

actually, thats probably not a good place for my face.

Anxst 05-24-2008 03:27 AM

That was actually pretty awesome. I believe I got all the references but one, and I definitely dig the tune.

LoganSnake 05-24-2008 10:02 AM

All rerefences: http://valleywag.com/392972/weezer-u...o-work-youtube

That's the main reference I picked up also!

fresnelly 05-25-2008 04:21 PM

Wow! I heard the song on the radio a couple days ago and was unimpressed but together with the video, it's great.

MexicanOnABike 05-26-2008 10:13 AM

this is so fucking great! I got all of the reference i think. good song too. I like it.

speshul-k 05-26-2008 11:39 AM

I guess you know you're a more than average internet user if you got 90% of the characters or references in this video.

I didn't see Chad Vader or HotforWords anywhere though!

Bacchanal 05-26-2008 12:05 PM

I got most of the references I think. The video is completely awesome, but I'm not too crazy about the song.

blahblah454 05-26-2008 07:02 PM

That video was pretty amazing. The effect that You Tube has had on the world is frightening though.

lotsofmagnets 05-27-2008 01:41 AM

i got less than a third of the references. should i be spending more time on the net?

JumpinJesus 05-27-2008 10:04 AM

I'm more than a bit relieved that i got only a few references.

UKking 05-27-2008 11:53 AM

Weezer's "Pork and Beans" (video)

They've always amused me.

and the Mentos Eruption stuff was just fantastic.

DEI37 05-27-2008 03:11 PM

I got a few of 'em. Like the song, like the video. Good find here.

sadistikdreams 05-27-2008 07:50 PM

I personally think South Park did it better, but this is pretty awesome.

I think that Weezer deserves one internet.

Redlemon 05-28-2008 06:42 AM

Didn't Barenaked Ladies do essentially the same video a couple of years earlier?

edit: Yes. "Sound of your Voice". It even has many of the same performers.

Sorry Weezer, you are merely copycats.

fresnelly 05-28-2008 09:02 AM

Also, it shows how despite some visual panache, once the pop culture references are lost, so to is the interest. In a couple of years, this video will just be a dull collage of mugging antics.

Hmm... This doesn't bode well for Family Guy.

Great find Red!

Geo 05-29-2008 03:41 AM

Is This a reference to this?

MexicanOnABike 05-29-2008 02:28 PM

no. I think it's a ref to this:

her youtube name is kicesie.

Quote:

YouTube video blogger Kicesie offers frank sex advice in her online series, Kicesie's Sex Ed. The Weezer video reference is very short, but you can see a girl wearing rainbow socks on a couch for a few seconds. This refers to one of Kicesie's most popular posts, which has received over 10 million views.

mixedmedia 05-29-2008 02:58 PM

Cute. :)

I know most of these from standing behind my daughter's shoulder saying 'what the hell are you watching?'

Starshine 06-19-2008 05:47 AM

Internet celebs get an extra 15 minutes...

*though not all of them deserved it...*

MexicanOnABike 06-19-2008 05:49 AM

REPEAT!!!!!!! search for the weezer internet video.

The_Jazz 06-19-2008 05:52 AM

Merged the two thread together.

Out of curiosity, does anyone else think that Rivers Cuomo looks like a used car salesman in that video?

Starshine 06-19-2008 06:02 AM

Yes, not diggin' the mustache very much...

I'm just glad that Weezer is back to sounding more like their Blue Album.

Shauk 06-19-2008 10:15 AM

Weezer may win the internet, but I win the thread!

next time starshine, next time!

This is a truly marvelous collection of interweb memes. I was a bit disappointed, though, that they didn't include Monty Python, the FSM, or Weird Al. I guess everything fun on the internet is simply too big to fit into one video.
