To be our soul and gesture it abroad,
Our hearts are incommunicable still.
In what we show ourselves we are ignored.
The abyss from soul to soul cannot be bridged
By any skill of thought or trick of seeming.
Unto our very selves we are abridged
When we would utter to our thought our being.
We are our dreams of ourselves, souls by gleams,
And each to each other dreams of others' dreams.

Yeah, man, I REALLY wish Hang drums were easier to acquire. Used to be to get one, you had to go to their factory in Bern in person and they would personally hand-make it for you. Right now they're not producing any new ones, so even when they do occasionally crop up on the secondary market, they're ridiculously expensive.

Where did you hear that? As I've understood it, they're built in a certain scale, and that's it. If they can be retuned, then I'm REALLY interested (and really frustrated they're basically impossible to get hands on).

http://www.hangfan.co.uk/hang-drum-science.html

i was reading this webpage, comrade.
looking at it again, i might have been overly optimistic about my new fantasy-drum, which i would like to think can be made to do things in microtones.
finest mutant steel drums i have seen in a while, a bit like two tuned woks.
very nice.

That's awesome.

I have similar music on Buddha Bar compilations, but I had no idea how the sound was achieved. Now I do!

on ebay a hangdrum costs as much as $5,000! Ouch.

edit: just read that hangdrums were created in Switzerland, and have only been around since 2000! How interesting...they were created based on research on several different types of resonating percussion instruments, including steel drums, or the gamelan.

Another vid...can't see anyone playing in this one but the sound is very chilled...me like.

oh wow you guys are behind the times

you guys ever hear of David Swarup? He's been making solo tracks with Han(d)gdrums for a while, he just teamed up for a duo project "David vs David" with Hang Drum & Violin

has a link to his myspace for better quality audio

I'm thinking my next mix will have this as an intro. It's such a great mood setter.
