Turns out it's better to not drink then. But what about what they used to say about drinking one glass of red wine is good for your heart?

Apparently brain shrinkage is linked to diseases such as Alzheimer's. This study was originally looking for a way in which alcohol might reduce brain ageing as it does heart disease. Turns out the opposite may be true, but further studies are needed to be conclusive.

Other possible causes of brain shrinkage include:

vegetarianism (lack of B12)
obesity
smoking weed
chronic back pain
ageing (duh)

Proper diet, exercise, and being active (not just physically), help to preserve your brain.

I drink very little so I'm not worried. But it's definitely interesting to know!

Yes, this is interesting. I thought the one a day (for women) or two a day (for men) was a free and easy rule. I guess not.

I've always thought that you don't need to drink the red wine limit to help your heart. There are many other ways, which you've mentioned.

I think the best thing to do is to not drink alcohol at all. There are too many bad things about it, and now even the beneficial aspect has a problem.

Although I enjoy a nice wine and a good beer, I could never drink another drop and be fine with it. There are other things to enjoy on the palate.

I think people should drink tea as a health beverage rather than wine. Tea isn't perfect either, but I think it's quite better.
