That was completely awesome.

I hadn't thought that much about chatroulette, but now I see its potential for some interesting performance artistry.

An older, fatter Baraka_Guru, but I can see the resemblance.

Your older brother perhaps?

...

There are a number of videos of chatroulette that involve a sort of performance art. It seems to be the thing to do these days.

I'm partial to this one:

Chatroulette!

It is a website where you open up a videochat window, and are randomly connected to another user. You can disconnect at any time to load the next person, or they can disconnect you.

John Stewart explained it as similar to Russian Roulette, but instead of one chamber loaded with a bullet, there are five chambers loaded with cock. (Anonymous masturbation is apparently popular on Chat Roulette.)

Ah, thank you very much for the explanation, RedLemon. (I thought about flying-flung cats for some reason with Baraka_Guru's succinct summary)

So, the practice of chatroulette may be something akin to this example, I'd assume:

To quote Tycho Brahe:

"Chat Roulette connects you, your webcam, and your microphone to another random stranger's all-of-the-above. Also, in many cases, their all-of-the-below. This second one happens a lot, out of nowhere you're watching a man you don't know and can only partially see furiously engaged in what might be called a "gripping single player experience." It's so commonplace in fact that it ceases to be in any way startling. It's practically the default, with all the energy and novelty of the number three combo meal."

In short it's a completely random video-and-voice instant messenger chat program. The roulette being played is not french but russian, and given the penile inevitability, is likely being played with a semiautomatic.

And yet somehow despite the male genital's best efforts there's some truly epic occurences on a fairly regular basis.

That is rather "truly epic" how we have come to this definition.

And Xerxys, that's a great visual example of the practice (and I also happen to follow that same blog in which you got your post from, although I only check it every two months, so I might need to rethink how I view it, and how often.)

one last example of what chatroulette would resemble to the untrained observer, like me.

I think I've got it now.

I guess I'm too easy to please; mix techno beats with two parts of hot girls, and a few half-dozen random strangers, and I like it.

I also like a good bit of creativity and role-playing, and even though is quite immature and way geeky, I still couldn't help smiling all the way though it.

The New Yorker interviews kid behind Chatroulette (not the obscene child above, but the actual creator)

excerpt:
"Andrey Ternovskiy, an eighteen-year-old high-school dropout from Moscow, has a variety of explanations for why he created the Web site Chatroulette.com. According to one story, he got bored talking to people he already knew on Skype; according to another, it was a fund-raising ploy for a bike trip from Moscow to Amsterdam. The most reliable version, however, centers on a shop called Russian Souvenirs. It is an upscale outfit owned by Ternovskiy’s uncle Sasha, who hired his nephew to work there as a salesman during the summer of 2008, five days a week, eleven hours a day. Ternovskiy was supposed to show foreign tourists around the shop, pulling various nesting dolls, lacquered boxes, and kitschy Soviet paraphernalia from the bright vitrines. The job was easy but exhilarating."
