OK, not the brightest crayon in this box. So this is supposed to be there and it's a good thing?

Upon contemplation a zero warning for me would be unusual.

SecretMethod70 06-06-2006 05:27 AM

lol, yes it's supposed to be there, and yes 0% is a good thing :)

OK, so I can now view a private/buddy list journal entry... but, I can't view the comments? "Redlemon, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:"

Idiot. The "Remember Me" checkoff on the login page should do the trick. RTFM.

No, I take it back. This is an issue. It could be just "the way things are now", but...

On my work machine, I don't select "remember me". Previously, when I turned my computer on and logged in, TFP would remember me until I closed the browser many hours later. Now, it forgets me if I'm away for a half-hour or so. The cookie still exists, because it keeps my skin preference.

Are the time-out rules different now?

Halx 06-07-2006 01:50 PM

I don't think they are, but I've always experienced the auto-logout after 30 min of inactivity if I don't use the permanent cookies.

Did you also remove "Tilted Nonsense" from New Posts? :| That disappoints me, it used to be there, and I do most of my TFPing through the New Posts link.

Anyone else notice the ctrl-i, ctrl-u and ctrl-b buttons are actually picked up by the form now, instead of being intercepted by the browser? Bolding text just got fun! heh..

ooo good call

Redlemon 06-14-2006 06:29 AM

Spoiler text: In all themes, the spoiler text has a white background. This allows it to stand out in most themes, but in the themes with a white background, there is no indication of the presence of spoiler text. I don't know if that can be adjusted or not.

Spoiler: here's some spoiler text<-- this should be detectable.

cyrnel 06-14-2006 06:58 AM

Automerge is nice, but I bumped into it trying to duplicate something else.

Does anyone else see errant 40-second post throttle warnings? Type in the reply box, click advanced to preview, then post. I can't duplicate it in the test forum. Didn't happen here in General, either.

Short of creating a separate tag for a different color spoiler, I'm not sure how this can really be fixed. Hopefully the "Spoiler:" in the beginning is enough to give away that there is covered text that follows.

JustJess 06-14-2006 07:09 AM

I got all excited that that was actually a nifty spoiler. :)

SecretMethod70 06-14-2006 07:24 AM

Spoiler: SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE!
BOOMER IS A CYLON!
VERBAL IS KEYZER SOZE!

JustJess 06-14-2006 07:27 AM

Yay! Wheee!! Heeheeheehee!!

Just discovered a nifty feature in searching.... if you are searching on posts based on a person's user name... once you start to type in their name (like 3 characters) you'll get a list up of every member that matches that name... (good for bad spellers like me :)

Halx 06-15-2006 09:58 AM

To those that care, the Journals should be running MUCH faster now. MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH faster.

Carno 06-15-2006 10:04 AM

Excellent work. It used to annoy me how sometimes it would take forever to load a journal.

I was just about to mention that. Wow. I noticed that this morning, and wanted to see it happen one more time before I said anything.

Again, wow. What was the change?

Cynthetiq 06-15-2006 10:09 AM

AMAZING!!! It's so much faster!!!!

thanks!

Gilda 06-15-2006 01:20 PM

Windows XP
Firefox 1.5.0.4

When I try to post two separate, indepentant posts consecutively in the same thread, the two are combined into one post with a message that the "double post" was automerged.

This part down was in a separate post from post 101.

Maybe this is a feature that only bugs me, but is there a way to turn it off?

Gilda

It's a feature to prevent people from bumping their threads up to the top.

Hmm. I've done that a couple of times, but I've always had a good reason to do so. I don't think thread bumping has been an issue here, has it?

I also would prefer, sometimes, to respond to separate statements in separate posts, as Gilda mentioned. It is useful when a single topic diverges into a few internal threads.

abaya 06-15-2006 02:26 PM

YAY FOR JOURNALS!!!!!!!! :D Thank you.

As for the double-posting thing, yeah, is there really a problem with people bumping their threads up? I mean, maybe there should be a minimum "waiting period" on your own threads, e.g. waiting 3 days or something... and if no one else posts in that time, you could be given another chance to bump it up. Sometimes, good thread starters just get overlooked at first.

Then again, I am sure there is no shortage of bad, annoying threads, too. :p

Don't worry, there is a waiting period. Posts are not always automerged.

If you want to be sure the points are separated, you can just use a horizontal line.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For example, like above.

Tilted Canada has returned in the Chatter section. The other regional forums have been removed indefinitely. If there is a particularly active topic of discussion that anyone would like to see continued, tell a mod and we can see about moving it into the relevant remaining forum. If there is significant demand for an entire regional forum, restoring it may be considered, like with the Canada forum. Remember, though, the reason the forums have been removed in the first place is due to inactivity, so the chances aren't particularly great. I'll save most of you some time and say that the regional forums pertaining to the U.S. will almost definitely not return. The fate of Tilted Europe and Tilted Asia isn't quite as certain, but it will take a GREAT deal of convincing to restore them. Tilted Canada was, by far, the most active regional forum, and that is why it has been kept.

You will notice a "Support" section at the top of the forums now. Please use this to report problems with the forum so we can track and repair them.

Hey this is odd. I logged in using Firefox and got the old look. Even after a refresh.

I cry for the loss of darkcloud, but I guess fromBasics Dark will have to suffice. haven't run into any problems yet, though.

i found a glitch in a thread: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?t=2863
go to post #5. i tried in 2 diff browser and 2 diff styles and it's still weird.
check the users info. for me, i get only the name and the warning icon. the rest is gone and the name isnt a link. it's fucked.

edit: i didnt comfirm if it was just the user or just this post. .. ??. i'm just curious to see why it's like that.

For whatever reason this user has been purged from the system. There is no record of the person existing anymore.

I don't recall a Big Julie member and don't see any notes from the staff as to the member been banninated for any reason. The member is quite old, there are other Big Julie posts, but since there isn't a "user" that matches it, there is no link.

Telluride 06-25-2006 11:35 PM

EDIT: Nevermind. I did some more exploring and found out the answer to my question.

MSD 06-26-2006 07:21 AM

I think it would be nice for links to be underlined in Insignia. It's a pain in the ass to have to mouse over everything that anyone writes to check for links, or to miss links because I didn't mouse over carefully enough.

I remember that user, and I'm 99% sure he was not banned.

bobby 06-26-2006 09:18 AM

can I get my avitar to move or is that no longer an option? ...xoxoxoo

oldtimer 07-06-2006 04:58 PM

Wow, changes actually happened.... I don't even know if I should bother reporting anything because when I did Hal never gave an answer. Not that he had to but it would of been nice. *Sigh* With all the anti-aliasing problems w/ the past themes and all, and former features removed that I recommended and Hal so kindly installed in 3.0 version I believe. But when he upgraded after that it was all lost, I made a thread in Suggestions w/ all the requests and new ideas but I was never answered.

Hal, now that you have seemingly have time [b/c I know workin' on the forum bugs can be a chore especially when you had to balance your personal life at the same time] should I reask? I really, REALLY do not want to post the suggestions if I'm going to get ignored; my mind simply couldn't take that again.

For example, someone asked you how the journals were made to be faster. I know you can't be expected to see every question but... I'm speaking from experience when someone asked you about a technical aspect of the site. :D But yeah, I'm really interested to know even it is in coder geek speak. You could always simplify the terminology.

Anyway, let me know Hal - the ideas and opinions are here... they just never get heard by the only person who can do anything about them which is you. I've tried reaching different admins in the past w/ suggestions seemingly in their terrority of being an admin, nothing to change the site or overhaul it in a major fashion and I've been told it had to be you. Then kindly PM'ing you to see what your thoughts on the suggestion were, usually inviting you to comment in the thread so that everyone could see than to expect a personal response. You never showed.

I realize this is your baby, but if an experienced admin can edit a theme template to make links not get hidden because they match the background they're on, can't he be allowed to?

I know this is all in the past 'n all, but... I just really can't bare to give the opinions and be treated like a mime. A yes or no is always perfectly fine followed by personal opinions. But in the past... never got that kind of response much less the acknowledgement. This was the guy who recommended QuickQuote II and QuickEdit, which worked beautifully and received massive praise as a great addition resoundingly, but no one seemed to care to readd them after the upgrade that removed them took place.

Previous threads:

SecretMethod70 07-07-2006 01:28 AM

When it comes to things like links getting hidden in certain themes due to their colors, list those issues here and I'll see what I can do. As for stuff like re-adding QuickEdit and QuickQuote II, yes, that requires Halx.

oldtimer 07-07-2006 08:38 AM

Yeah, Secret. I've always know about that, who should implement hacks and who should not. Hacks would require the highest admin, b/c if anything got screwed no one admin would lose their position over the botch up. But the issue w/ the links being hidden b/c they matched the color of theme, among many other small issues, was an example that was reported by me but never taken any action on. Not even commented on. Nada! Nothing. You read those initial threads, right? So my skepticism is not undue or unfounded. I just have a really hard time after 2 years or so that anyone will take my requests seriously.

Which made me wonder why we need so many admins if none of them besides Halx can alter anything. Trust me, anything I've ever asked for needing minor tweaking has told me to route it thru Hal, I wonder if I still have those PMs lying around saying such things? Anyway, I hope this is the dawn of a new beginning - I really do. B/c it was really frustrating to see little things not getting fixed, it's not like anyone who can make the actual changes reads suggestions anymore.

But I guess I'll never know until I try again. :suave:

Link Issue: I believe that happened w/ the Dark Cloud theme, which was my favorite and would like to see brought back. BasicDark looks underachieving and early vb-ish.

SecretMethod70 07-07-2006 12:20 PM

Well, bringing back an entire theme (i.e. Dark Cloud) *isn't* something I can do. Plus, tbh, themes are pretty low priority in terms of things that need to be worked on for the site, especially now that there are a few fully functional options.

But, if you have any examples of colors that don't work well together in currently active themes, I'll be happy to take a look at those and see what can be done.
