Had to leave this awesome space

Does anyone still think about our troops?
This is something really cool that Xerox is doing. If you go to this web
site... http://www.letssaythanks.com/ ... you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services. It is FREE and it only takes a second. Not trying to promote someone elses website here, just feeling for my brother and the rest of the troops...this might make them feel warm a fuzzy. |

While I'm sure this is a good thing for them to do, I know that if I was a soldier in a situation like that; I wouldn't want to get that warm fuzzy feeling. I wouldn't want postcards, care packages etc from home because I feel I would lose focus on what I needed to be doing.

I'm not sure about gift cards, but care packages were appreciated by the soldiers (usually if it was crap they did not need, they would give it to the Iraqi Army, or Ugandans who would greatly appreciate it).
As far as holidays, most soldiers get sick of the holiday decor in the chow hall, and at the MWR, and the damn christmas music they play non-stop at mealtimes. It reminds people that it's the holidays, a time people like to spend with their families and they are as far away from their families as possible. I'm not knocking the idea, I think it's great, and I'm sure Xerox will get some tax right off for this "charity", but I'll stick with sending boxes filled with "Listerine" to the Marines I know over there. [EDIT] I misread the first post. I thought these were holiday cards for some reason. As Thank You cards... Yeah, great idea! [/EDIT] Last edited by kurty[B]; 11-30-2006 at 10:17 AM.. I don't know, I see this as a crass marketing ploy on the part of Xerox.
The sentiment is good but in the end it's just another ad for Xerox.
