This is the End (of Reason), my friends

Excuse me the melodramatic title that is just a tease. I didn’t want to create a new thread as I just wanted to explain me and excuse my lack of response to Willravel and anyone else that may have been interested in the discussion. I asked to include a couple of lines expressing that in the other thread (last “Reason is Overvalued…” thread), but I have only received silence as answer (and is me who is depicted as impolite).

It looks like our never well appreciated moderators didn’t see (sigh) “anything to discuss” in my posts so they insist in sanctioning that ominous asseveration by shutting down any incipient discussion. I have to recognize that their logic is as rounded and rotund as Pope’s infallibility. No point then in posting an answer to WIllravel or anyone here as we will not be able to continue the discussion as this thread will be eventually closed because roundedly it will not contains anything to discuss (they are fervent followers of San Anselmo arguments too).

Also I am indicted of “veiled insulting”, a felony very popular in the Middle East. Curiously I was the one actually being insulted as you will not find any aggression in my posts. Unless, I suppose, they have very dirty minds and they are imaging such things in the censored parts. Now seriously (not really) I don’t find offensive to delineate the inanity of other’s arguments, but on the contrary quite proper to a discussion and also utterly entertaining. Unnecessary tiptoeing and empty mutual flattering just dilutes the conversation into pure ego massaging. I much prefer roughness and biting to the point, at least in (but not confined to) argumentative matters. What amazes me is the hypocrisy that censures verbal fierceness but bestows in its crib a section like this: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?t=116650. That should appear normal for USA populace conditioned to such oxymorons as liberating by bombing but used to obtuse censorship all around like bleeping harmless language (BTW, that’s an endemic “logic” sample quite appropriated for the topic on debate). Bullets are ok but their mind is too fragile for some and such discussions. Actually, words are very dangerous.

Anyhow I just suppose that my irreverence is too much for their holiness the motherators. I will avoid posting here the private messages to that respect as I don’t want to embarrass too much anybody.

I will conclude with an opinion in the form of a parable. It is about certain logics and also a kiss good bye. I love you more.

Rational Man wakes up each morning with a fright. After breakfast he smiles, kisses its wife and children and goes to work. He is a free spirit, he makes its own rules, not like that blind people that follow the traditional rules. Anyway, after methodically polishing his boss’ ass he can go home and be really free. Then it smiles to his kin and like any other family man makes love to his wife and daughters, Lisa and Christina, a couple of just beautiful and tender little peachy pussies. He does not fuck his young boy because, although at some point it has crossed his mind and that would be so hip and unconventional, that would appear just too gay for him. Then at night just before going to bed he spits to the sky and his saliva collects little by little under his window, solidifying and building up a big shining white tower of pretexts. His wife thinks that it gives luster to their backyard. He does not know but tomorrow he will be dead. However the tower will continue growing and someone will still be fucking his wife and daughters and, since progress never stops, maybe his boy too.

I know that you are not Rational Man, but you are not different from him.

---

If someone is interested about the discussion I will hang around in the other philosophy forums.

Now you can proceed to close, gag, blind, fuck or carefully cuddle this thread.

Enjoy.

I tried to read this, even after reading the last "thread" Ergo started, and my response is the same. I feel like I'm reading something translated from French to Japanese and then to English.
If you want to start a discussion, that would be great... this post was certainly wordy enough. I just don't see anything that would foster discussion or conversation; no questions, no statements that would develop any discussion of any points at all except to beg the question "What the hell are you on about?"

You obviously don't seem to understand that we are a discussion forum and have standards to adhere to in our discussion oriented forums.

You may have noticed it's not just the moderators that have taken the time to let you know that we like to spur discussion here, but also our community members.

Thank you for your time.

And, once again I tell you that you're misinterpreting the functions of logic. Logic is used to determine whether a sentence is consistent or inconsistent, logical or illogical. It doesn't-- And it's not-- Supposed to make any kind of assumption regarding the argument itself beyond that. That's what philosophy is for.

Seriously.

Infinite_Loser (sic),

So if you are right philosophy is supposed to use something aside of logic for its work? You can tell that to almost all the philosophers before the XIX century, and 95% of those who lived afterwards. Hey, psst, Kant, Descartes, Wittgenstein you have no idea, so say Infinite_Loser.

But wait a moment, stop here, WTF are you discussing? Don’t you know that THERE IS NOT DISCUSSION? These words do not exist (at least they are impossible to read for them).

Ustwo,

I knew you can do it. Congratulations on your first words. Carry on baby.

Six posts and you're already swinging for the mods. You'd have to call that precocious, at least.

Friend: I don't know you. You don't know me. But I've been here a while, and you haven't. The structures and policies and practices of this board WORK. You can discuss anything you want to discuss, provided you follow those policies. It's not a question of the content or ideas of your posts. It's a question of your attitude.

My prediction: You and TFP will part ways and you'll go blithely on your way, taking solace in how right you are about how the TFP moderators.

Ratbastid,

Hey, you keep changing the theme (ironically quite an illogical stance). They said it was that there was no discussion and now it is my "attitude"?

My attitude is well, thank you, how about yours?

So this is like a preschool courtyard were everyone has to compose themselves and have the right attitude? I guess that is why our Motherators are such a devoted caretakers...

So what is the problem with my attitude? Come on, I have noted that you fancy it, I saw you looking down to my attitude just a minute ago...

And, in this context, it is quite easy to do such predictions, Nostradamus.

Cheers

Are you kind-of, sort-of quoting Jim Morrison, dude? That shit won't do.

You seem to be attempting to ingratiate yourself with a place in the unspoken TFP hierarchy that is traditionally earned.

In other words, you can't be an asshole until you are our asshole...to put it...in a way.

I realize that this is probably not a negotiable predicament, yet there it is.

Too bad.

Yes, because, that's exactly what I'm saying.

No, I'm merely telling you that the function of logic isn't to answer universal questions. It's purpose is to provide a systematic method of which you can use to evaluate arguments. Really. If you can't understand that, then you just don't want to understand.

I don't understand the thread, however I am disappointed after the teasing title.
Ergo, either it's my lack of intelligence or your lack of effort to express yourself in understandable ways, or something along the middle, but I think if you want discussion (which I assume you do, because a forum is a place for that) you should aim for more people to understand you, or at least what you're trying to say.
For the sake of comprehension, and ultimately, discussion, your OP should be focused on what you want to discuss.

Enough.

Please let this tread die without being closed.

Part of the process of discussion is dictated by communication. When one attempts to communicate in a fashion which is not understood by the opposite part of the alleged discussion... one is not communicating.

I was picturing more of an upper-crust figure saying this while seated in an Italian leather chair in his mahogany-laden private library. This, told to a detective who has uncovered the deception (and underlying insanity) of said figure.

I was picturing Anthony Hopkins reciting this in my face from a gigantic theatre screen.

Name one person on this whole forum who isn't a know it all, myself included. I dare you.

I read the OP twice (one and then again with the context of the parable), and I have to say I find the direction to be somewhat difficult to sense. I think I understood the previous thread, in dealing with the misuse of the term rational by irrational people and how the term and even the idea is losing or has possibly even lost it's meaning (though the sperm thing was still out of left field).

This thread started as a tirade, but the parable threw me quite a bit. By my guess it's about something a lot of people go through: the realization of the natures of being human. Some of those basic human behaviors and perceptions could be positive, and yes some are very destructive. One such example is molestation (father being sexual with daughters), and another being sheep to media and ignorant elements of society (being homophobic).

I hope you realize that destructive behavior of that depraved magnitude is exceedingly rare. Not as rare as we want it to be, fo course, but rare none the less. If you're coming from a place of generalities, then maybe taking this in stages, statistics and psychology followed by what can be done. It's action, after all that, can prevent that which clearly sickens you. If, however, this is coming from a more personal place, perhaps of personal experience, an online forum may not be the right venue.

This guy is getting approximately 1000% more shit than he deserves. Ok so he types in an extremely descriptive yet ambiguous manner -- is that a reason to lash out? Is not understanding his posts worth lashing out over? I'd rather read what he has to say than read the other bucket loads of bullshit on the Internet.

I actually find reading his posts entertaining if not educational. Not because of what he has to say, but because how he says it. Most people on the Internet type and communicate with a particular style. I've never seen a style like this...dare I say it's refreshing?

A small amount of people in these threads have actually responded to what he has to say; the rest have simply said "I don't get it" even though if you read his words 5 times through it does eventually make sense. On top of saying I Don't Get It, members have actually said Get The Fuck Out because we don't understand you. This is the TFP right?

I'm not entirely sure why, but I look forward to Ergo's responses. It's like reading poetry in college. I don't get it but it sure does flow nicely.

QFT. I'm very surprised at everyone. While most of my OPs don't include molestation, many are tedious. People read them and respond to them without much issue, though.

I'm more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

TFP is a great place, but I recognize that it's not perfect, Laser. We have issues like exclusion just the same as any other community.
