that was neighborly

i like my neighbors.
been here a little over 2 years and dont know most of their names but they are nice people.
i was out shoveling the driveway twice today and both times the plows came by and buried the end of the driveway. both times, one of my neighbors came over with their snowblower and cleared out the pile.
saved my back as it has been raining since late morning and the snow has turned to slush.

That's good to hear. It's getting more unusual for neighbors to do stuff like that anymore.

It truely is unusual for people to do that kind of stuff anymore. Very kind of them, especially in this time, the "season of giving"

We had a pretty bad snow storm a few years ago. Couldn't leave the house for a few days. It was my mom, my sister and I stuck in the house. We aren't the biggest and strongest people.

Some random guys from down the street that I had never seen before went up and down the street on their four-wheelers that had plows on th front clearing our street then clearing out everyone's driveway. It took 'em almost two days.

I spent most of the time hangin' out in the snow with the guy that lives across the street from me drinking beer. We set up two lawn chairs on top of a huge snowbank, stuck beer in the snow around us and watched. (I actually spent more time watching his 16yr old daughter.)

Here in Detroit (pronounced "shit hole") we finally got some damn snow, so I just spent 2 hours shoveling the double driveway that we share with our neighbors. He was shoveling right next to me but eventually gave up and went inside for a break. I, being young and energetic (ha!), finished the base of their side of the driveway. It's the least I could do after they had cleared all the leaves from the driveway a few weeks before.

When I was in HS my little brothers and I also used to mow my neighbor's lawn (she was at least a billion years old, maybe two) and clear the ENTIRE block's sidewalk during the winter. We had an industrial self-propelled snow blower, however, so it was rather selfish NOT to just finish the block

If you have the ability, why not help out your neighbor? Karma, baby! It'll all come back around

Hmmmm... I had the opposite thing happen. My nextdoor neighbor ran his snowblower on all of the sidewalks in the neighborhood EXCEPT in front of our house. In fact he specifically ran into the street and around us. Asshole. I have no idea why he has a problem with us, but its painfully obvious he does.

We currently have the best neighbors we've had in years... they're a young Polish family living upstairs, and we get along really well with them. We chat in the laundry room often, help each other out with tools and car-fixing stuff, I gave them some chocolate muffins once, etc. It's been a long time since I really knew who my neighbors were... funny that the Icelanders don't say Boo to us. They just run past us, barely saying "hi" on the way in and out. Immigrant solidarity, go figure.

we just got dumped on here, a couple of people on our end of the block have snowblowers and do all the driveways and sidewalks. part to be nice, and i think also to get a chance to use their "cool" machines lol. i have to admit i would do it if i had one. very nice of them though!

i know my neighbours pretty well, 1 side is a russian family, not very talkative but still nice and quiet. kids are very quiet, has a daughter that looks like anna k that goes to our local uni, wow!

other side is a nice family with 2 young kids, an elderly disabled mom that lives with them. oh and a puke for a father who drinks constantly and sometimes abuses the mom. i've stepped in several times, done all i can do. point out our local shelters, call cops. i give up. nice family very nice, always willing to help. i carry there recycling out and garbage most times since the father is too lazy.

My neighbour ( Abdul!) also came by twice with his snowblower to clear much of my driveway. For a man from Pakistan, he's well prepared for Canadian winters. We got about 30 centimetres (that's a foot of snow to those backwards cultures still using imperial measurements).

When I used to live where snow falls, anytime there was snow I would clear my neighbours steps whenever I did my own. Heck, most of the time it was just a matter of using a broom to sweep away the dusting of snow.

I know he appreciated it.

My neighbors are great. They take in packages, help out if things need to be carried. They hold open doors, smile, and say hello or greetings, push elevator buttons. I sometimes forget that I live in Manhattan they are so friendly.

Speaking of neighborly - how about a little opposite story?

I moved into my apartment here back in May. Got myself a little ol' blue doormat at Lowe's. They're handy, no?

The very next day after I'd put it out in front of my door, it was gone. I looked around thinking the wind had blown it, etc., and nothing.

So neighborly of the people here in my complex to have stolen a dang doormat. How friendly!

Needless to say I have one on the INSIDE of my front foor now anyway.

My neighbors blow their leaves into the street and when people have their driveways plowed, they don't make much of an effort to clean up what's left on the road.

I shovel my driveway if my mom can't get her car in, but I'm fine with building some momentum on the road, turning, and driving over the snow.

One of the main reasons I like where I live so much is because for the entire 29 years I've lived here it has been very neighborly and friendly with lots of helping each other out. And even with people moving out and new people moving in, the spirit has endured. It's not at all typical in other Philadelphia suburbs but this is really an exceptionally nice little borough ...Narberth.

Last winter my next door neighbor got a new industrial strength high powered snow blower that he got handed down from his brother who moved to Florida, so he asked me if I didn't mind, he'd like to give me his old one. He was sort of concerned how I would feel about getting a hand-me-down ...I can hardly wait to use it! Thanks, Joe & Pat.
