A General Apology

Last night I saw a video that kinda sent me over the edge. Leave us say that it made me sick to my core. I posted about it, not thinking about how much the topic was leaving me in an emotional place.

Today I happened upon some information involving the subject of the thread. A name and address, in particular. I posted it. A seasoned veteran of TFP like me forgot one of the most important rules laid out in TFP Policy and Guidelines:
Quote:
Do not post anyone's personal information (full name, phone number, address, email) without their permission. No exceptions.
Fortunately several of the moderation staff happened upon the thread and caught my error.

I make this thread for two reasons:
1) I screwed up in a big way because I wasn't fresh on the rules and I wasn't thinking when I was posting. I take full responsibility for that. I'm very sorry and will make every effort in the future to ensure that I post responsibly.
2) Don't make the same mistake I made. Don't post when you're really pissed, and bear the rules in mind at all times. I'm hoping some good can come of my mistake in that people will read this and check out the rules if they're rusty or simply are more mindful.

Thanks for reading, and feel free to discuss.

Not too sure what happened to cause this as I haven't seen the thread in question, but Will I'm pretty sure all will be forgiven, you've never been a problem here that I've seen and I've always enjoyed conversing with you on the forum, so no worries mate you're still good shit in our books.

It's closed. The video is on both Reddit and Digg, but if you ever listen to my advice listen now: you don't want to see the video. I seriously regret watching it, for reasons in addition to those named in this thread... namely the nightmares and sobbing.

rare that people fess up to their own boo boos - so good on you for owning up to the mistake and being open about it. As long as you've learned something from it.

Hopefully though, the video wasn't that horrible 2 girls 1 cup thing, because when you mentioned nightmares and sobbing... it came to mind :P

It's the marine torturing and killing (presumably) the puppy by chucking it off a cliff video (just so there's no more silly talking around the issue; we're all mature adults, we can handle it). Just as a quick question of policy-we post the names of people in news items all the time. Was the problem that more than a name was posted or is posting names even in that context a little sketchy on the rules?

Just now saw this thread. willravel, I PMed you to tell you (like everyone else so far) about what a disgusting rules violator you are.

Just for general info, though, there's a link to this story on the front page of CNN.com right now.

Seems will wasn't the only one outraged by the video, and certainly wasn't the only one wanting to track that dumbass down and hold him accountable.

I hold very little hope that it was staged, but any Marine who doesn't know by now that youtube = courts-martial for a lot of dumbasses in the past, probably deserves one himself.

Thing that pissed me off was finding out that it was the infantry battalion I served alongside for most of last year. I don't recall that particular Marine, but if I'd seen that video before they left, I'd have been all up in his ass whether or not he put it on teh intarwebs.

I must be one heartless bastard because the video didn't do anything for me. This is coming from a guy who changes the channel when one of those "help animal shelter" commercials come up with cats and dogs in cages due to sadness levels. Must be the music.

I guess I am a bad person, I saw this video this morning before reading what you were talking about. I dont see anything that would make me get upset.

he threw the puppy over a cliff. though it is something that I would NEVER do, I dont get disgusted by this. I do think that this Marine does need to be addressed by this. addressed how? I don't know.

Growing up in Mexico, I do recall in Mexico City that dogs over there are treated lesser than they are treated here in the U.S. when a dog crossed the road, they got hit, and then left there. Did I do anything about it? NO. I was young back then. I have owned dogs in the U.S and do treat them how any other dog loving person would. but I still do not see anything "disgusting" about this. maybe because it doesnt touch close to home.

People and Dogs die daily here on this earth, I guess I am selfish that when it hits close to home, it does hurt, but since this isnt close to home. It doesnt bug me as much.

Also when I die, I dont expect for people that hadn't met me to be sad. I guess that is how I look at it.

You grew up in Mexico? Cool.

Dogs, to me, represent the personification of that innocence that you see in human babies. They are relatively unintelligent, yet still have traits like loyalty, adoration, devotion, friendship, and trust. When I see an attack on a puppy, I see an attack on those ideals, which are defenseless in the puppy. That puppy had no idea that it was probably about to die (assuming the video was real). This cuts to my very core. It's the same feeling I get when I see child abuse; I have to do something, anything to protect. I've even used p[hysical intimidation and violence to protect a 5 year old child from his father (which is the only time in my life outside of childhood scuffs that I became physically violent).

If someone hurts you, expect me to get pissed. I know we've never met, but it's just in my nature.

Still, I don't want to get too off topic. Instead of channeling my anger and outrage, I let it get the best of me.
