Did Amazon.com crash?

I'm not able to get on Amazon.com from work. Neither can my wife from home. I can't find any news of it on internet. Maybe it's some sort of local/regional problem? Can you get on Amazon?

Amazon.com Web Site Appears Down
Dow Jones
June 06, 2008: 02:12 PM EST

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Amazon.com's (AMZN) Web site appeared to down early Friday afternoon.

Several Dow Jones employees in various locations were unable to call up the site.

Attempts to contact Amazon weren't immediately successful.

Internet site www.theflyonthewall.com told its subscribers of the outage earlier Friday afternoon. Tech-focused blogs were also discussing the outage.

It wasn't clear how long the site had been down, or what caused the outage.

Shares of Amazon were down 2.8% at $82.12.

I was just cursing at that website a few seconds before logging into TFP to check new posts... and this thread came up. Very weird... never seen Amazon down before!

Lasereth 06-06-2008 11:23 AM

I don't wanna know how much revenue they lost during the downtime.

ratbastid 06-06-2008 11:24 AM

Right now, I get: "Http/1.1 Service Unavailable".

Heads are ROLLING right now. You have any idea the revenue Amazon loses every second it's down??

Shauk 06-06-2008 11:55 AM

eh... so does this mean purchases in that time frame that were pending were dropped as well?

I love how everyone is "omg revenue"

still a far cry from the old days when they were on the verge of bankrupcy.

$520 per second, $31,000 per minute, that's net loss, not revenue loss

ratbastid 06-06-2008 12:39 PM

They're back up now.

I'll bet the Kindle that they're using as a web server crashed....

alkaloid 06-06-2008 01:22 PM

Weird. When I went to amazon and saw it wasn't working, it was quite hard for me to accept that something went wrong at amazon. It was easier for me to imagine some sort of fiber outage or some sort of dns mess up.

I wonder how I would feel if Google went down for a few hours.

That happened a couple of years ago. It was downright scary.

yay4tay 06-09-2008 12:00 PM
