Does it ever creep you out...

Particularly the women on the board, but does it ever creep you out to know that total strangers are reading our posts, looking at our pix on the exhibition board? I adore most of the regular posters, but given how many lurkers there are, well, it's just a little creepy to think of dozens of people just reading your stuff or looking at your photos. Part of the charm of this place is the anonymity. You never know if people really are who they say they are. But I find that a little frightening, too. I guess the answer is not to post stuff on the web, but how do you negotiate the line between freedom and privacy/safety?

i guess being a six foot moose who fears very little in real life, it's a differnet situation for me.. i don't mind people seeing me and who i am, but i understand the vulnerabilities involved for women who share themselves on the web... i sincerely hope you consider the tfp a safe place to share yourself, and encourage you to keep an open line of communication with any of the mods if you ever are made to feel uncomfortable...

but beyond the psa, the web is a big scary place populated by some real winners... your personal level of comfort should always determine what and where you post things, and you should never "go out on a limb" if you have any kind of concerns about what kind of hands your pictures might fall into... it's just the common sense of the web. some people have "street smarts", others have "web savvy" - it's the same thing in a different medium.

I agree with you phred; I was just bein' a smartass; I'm 6'5", I don't worry about stalkers, but I do empahize with women; I wouldn't like to think that there was some kind of freak out there that COULD possibly form some kind of an imaginary attachment; that wouldn't be at all cool.

I usually don't worry too much about what I post on the internet. I don't go around posting my phone number or crap like that, but pictures, thoughts, etc. don't bother me whatsoever.

hmm...i get creeped out sometimes...

but it's not really a privacy/safety issue, i like to think i'm smart enough to do anything stupid and _dangerous_

...for me is just more of a creep kinda issue, i just don't like creepy-ish people gettin creepy on me..it just tends to violate my purity of mind or something...

and even then, of course, i'd have to have some indication that it was happening..just like IRL, if some creepy guy was having some creepy thoughts, he could either
1. keep them totally to himself. OK, fine. i'll never kno so it can't bother me.
2. look at me in that lecherous kinda creepy way..or try to talk to me, or anything like that..whilst giving me creep-vibe.
that is not cool, because then i know.
and then, try as hard as i can not to...but even for a flash-second, it goes thru my mind what things they're thinking...and *shudder*

thats the same reason i could never be a stripper/dancer. (of course i've thought about it, just for the money..)
even tho i'd be in a relatively safe work-situation with bouncers to protect me and blah blah...just the thought of some 300 lb greasy-ass-slimey-loser-guy having any sexual thoughts about me is just something i can live without, thanks.

bleh, long reply.

do i make sense?

(ps) yes, i realise i take a risk even here, like posting pics, whatever..but so far, no problems, and i feel comfortable enough and surrounded by enough cool people that it's worth the 'risk'

I heard news of some T-shirt site taking a pic from the exhibition board here and posting it on their site, even after discovered and brought to light by the poster they refused to remove it apparently. If I were her I'd be disturbed, although I don't recall how she felt at the time.

the whole situation, unfortunate as it was, is a reality of the modern internet... by posting something in a publicly available place, you lose any and all control over that picture and run the risk of being exploited like that. definitely reason to think about what you're posting and take precautions (watermarks, etc...) when posting things.

realize there are right at 25 _thousand_ accounts here. if only each of them looked........ that's a lot of people.

of course prolly half of em will never get to exhi, but who knows?

now..... think of the assholes who give these images out to friends....... you see a pattern, yes?

Posting nude pics of oneself is far different than posting just a head shot or full clothed body shot. It's fine if you don't mind your pics getting into the wrong hands but if you are sexy you better damn well copyright your pics and get paid by the thief who stole them. Hit him/her where it hurts!

For all I know, some of my pics or the amateur porn video I made with someone once could be floating around on the net. Just hope I can find it first before my family members do

That's about putting your stuff in front of the public - strangers if you will. Mimi was a shy person who released her shyness to become an exhibition-ist for the cam.

Your question is an interesting one in that it has never occurred to me to think of it like that. Neither have we ever discussed it among the 3 of us. I guess it comes so naturally with the territory that one just thinks of the audience as just that: "the audience".

I am who I am who I am.. No fear of Lurkers seeing that for themselves. If they wanna meet up.. hey, ya never know... I don't lie who I am, as I find that to be complete crap. If I cared that people read about me.. I simply wouldn't post. Sure I know some of you on here, but even most of you that I am talking to now, are still strangers to my life. The only difference is that you're a TFP member, not a huge difference in all actuality.

Yes, people need to be careful, but you say some people aren't who they say they are.. then how can lurkers be SURE about anything? The only way to know for sure is trust. I trust that everyone here is who they say they are. If I don't, I'll go out of my way to test you in the future to find out.

Basically, If you feel weird that people are reading about you.. don't post that info. What you want people to know about you... We're not stopping you.

Besides... Anyone that tries to stalk *Niki* will only be bound up in chains and beaten until they are her slave... So what are we worrying about?

I guess you just kind of have to accept the fact that some people are going to lurk and look at what you have to say/you. It doesn't really bother me, but I generally like to share my opinion, and like it to be heard. What bothers me is when people read my opinion but don't respond to it. I value lively discussion, and this community really strives to provide that. People reading my stuff doesn't bother me; what bothers me is when they don't say anything about it!

It's some relief that a person has to have posted 100 or so posts before they get into the exhibition forum. They might all be one-word grunts on the Titty Board ("hot", "nice rack", "I'd hit it!" times 100), but I'd bet by the time they've hit 100 they feel like they've got something invested in the community.

Not that they wouldn't do something sleazy (obviously--look at the t-shirt episode), but I'd say it cuts down on the sleazyness.

She was fucking pissed, and rightly so. The thread about that was the longest thread I've ever seen, outside the games and questions threads in Nonsense. She went away for a long time, but... guess what? Now she's back! And posting pictures of her face, too!

This is a good idea/point to bring up lurkette.
As for myself, I don't get creeped-out. Well, the first time I realized so many people had glanced at my journal I was wierded out a little just because I couldn't figure out why anyone would want to! I don't even stop to think before I put anything in my journals though, I don't hold back my thoughts just because someone may come along and read it. Same goes for any replies I may make to threads.
As far as posting pictures....the way I see it, if you are brave (imo) enough to post a nude picture of yourself then you have to accept the fact that lurkers will be looking and it may end up places you don't wish it to. This is just a fact of life on the internet. Even here on TFP where it feels "safe" you just don't know who is telling the truth and who is lying their face off just to have some fun (and yes...there are people out there that do that...I know someone who did it and it pissed me off to no end). I would really hesitate to post of pic of myself here where anyone and their dog could see it. But as far as anything else goes....I don't get bothered about it.
I think it's like real life...use your head, use common sense. If you wouldn't hand out your phone number/address to someone you just met then you wouldn't do it here either. I've always viewed the net as a big living room. Lots of people may knock to come in but you still have the option of who you will let in or not.

What I say here is pretty much the same as what I say in real life, the only difference being that I have time to stop for a minute and really try and express myself in a more clear and concise manner on the boards so there isn't much room too misunderstand what I'm saying. So I don't really care about people reading what I'm saying since I'm just as willing to say it to others in real life. As for the level of trust here, there are several board members who have my address and phone number. There are also a few others who I've sent pics to after they asked. Amazing considering I didn't think I'd even give out my first name to anyone here when I first joined.

A while ago I noticed that someone who was relatively new had an avatar, so I check the profile. they had an average of 49.xx posts per day! Sorry, but I can't imagine that a good proportion of them were "quality" Even doing nothing but scanning the forum all day, I don't think I could come anywhere near that number if I only used real replies where I had something material to say. Sometimes a couple of words is appropriate, but I see way to much of it IMHO.

I think people should be restricted to the 250 posts for access to the personal stuff, but hey, if you can spam one count you can do another, so I guess it wouldn't help.

Myself, I'm not 100% comfortable with the idea of posting pics or posting personal info, but I will anyway, because otherwise I'd be missing out on the full value of this forum. I've never seen anything of the caliber of TFP anywhere else.

Yeah, anything's spammable.

Maybe there's a level at which the sheer volume of one-word replies gets so high that it rises to the mod's attention?

The mods don't seem to come down all that hard on the one-word repliers in the TB. And every time I go over there I see LOTS of names I've never seen before. Which is fine, you know? People posting to thank others for their threads, etc. It feels GREAT when people post "thank-yous" to your threads, even when it consists of "she's hot" or "Yowza". At the same time, I'm not sure I want those folks looking at any nudes of me or lurkette.... Anybody who's posted on THIS thread, fine, but over there...

Maybe there ought to be two post-counts? Maybe post-counts inside the Erogenous Zone should be separate? Of course now this is tipping over into being off-topic and subject to being moved to the Suggestion Board now....

There's a lot going on in the background that you may not be aware of. In general, if someone gets busted spamming, 100 posts may suddenly turn into 10.

I don't get creeped out at all thinking others are reading my posts or looking at my pictures (of which I've posted none). In fact, the reason we post is so that others can see what we have to say.

Think about it this way, in real life, many people overhear your conversations and see you when you walk down the street. Does that creep you out? No. It's something we don't even consider.

Maybe it's because some of us invest a lot of ourselves here that it feels more personal and therefore leaves us feeling more vulnerable? Who knows....

Having other people read my posts is like having them overhear me talking to friends, no big deal. Looking like I do, not too many folks are going to drool over my pictures. I haven't made much secret of where I live and it's a small town but crazy folks is everywhere so I don't think that my participation on here amounts to much danger for me.

Some of you ladies probably cause a bit of drooling but putting your pic anywhere on the net is taking a chance that it will show up other places. I think that it's a brave thing you do and possibly it should be protected in some way from outsiders.

I mentioned in a previous version of the fourm that I don't cruise the exhibition thread much cause it creeps me out to be ogling people I see as friends. Kinda makes me feel like a dirty old man and I don't like that. I can ogle strangers just fine but you lose that stranger feeling on here real quick.

Anyways, just my two cents on the matter.

By the way. Some of the members also know my real name.

I read an awful lot of posts but I only reply to the ones I think need to have something else added. Guess thats just the kind of person I am. This is a very important question...

I've revealed a few things here that I've never mentioned to anyone in RL... I'm not sure I'd like that to part of me to be known. I haven't posted any pictures for much the same reason.

This forum is odd (to say the least). I feel I "know" many of the regulars as I read their posts on a daily basis but then I think about it and realize I don't really know anyone here.

We chit chat and share ideas but that isn't exactly knowing someone. I don't think there is anyone here that I could call on if I was in trouble or, say, needed help moving (both indicators of true friends...).

I don't say this to be all sour grapey it is just some of the things that go through my head about this place (and others like it).

That said... yes I am a tad nervous about what I post here and don't post anything too easily identifying (yes I know some of you can track me down but you actually have to be motivated to do so... I know you can pick the lock I just don't want to leave the door open and make it easier for you).
