Any other Japanese speakers?

Just wondering if anyone else here speaks Japanese.

I see a lot of posts of Japanese girls and "hentai", so I imagine there might be a couple people here besides me who speak it (kedo jouzu arimasen).

Hey, you should freshen it up.

Language is really good for the brain.

I've studied it off and on for the last 8 years, took 2 years in college, almost studied abroad (damn you school of engineering!!*shakes fist*). I'mthinking about picking up my second Bachellors in Asian studies and thinking about minoring in it. What did you want to talk about, this would be a good excersize for my brain until I get back in school..

Well I wish I had the time. That would be fun to learn but the time investment is too much right now. Maybe later when things wind down for me I can pursue it. Sorry you couldn't make it abroad Ganguro .

Ganguro: I'm probably going to exchange to Japan next Spring semester.

If you don't get to exchange you could look into something like the JET program. It's a neat program where you teach English in Japan for 1 - 3 years and they help you find a place to live and things like that. Makes a good amount of money, too.

You might also be interested in a project I hope to work on this summer--

I do some PHP web application development and I've been toying around with the idea of creating a big fat Japanese language database. The idea is that vocabulary is grouped in themes (for example, "Vocabulary for Cooking") and also give quick summations of grammatical structures. Maybe even some kanji lessons. It will be a multi-user community-based website so ideally we'll have dozens (possibly hundreds) of people contributing this kind of information.

Who knows, I have a lot of projects to do this summer, so I can't quite promise I'll get this one done (although I've actually completed some of the backbone code for it already).

TEE HEE

I wish I could speak or read Japanese. It would trips to the Japanese food store a whole lot easier to understand. My love of sushi has helped me understand some.

It's really pretty fun if you have a personal interest in it. If you have learned any other language that would help you develop the tools to "thinking in a different way" in terms of sentence structure and grammar.
