cats hate harmonicas

Ok
I'm keeping my sisters cat for a few months, so this evening this
fur-line is looking at me like I AM SUPPOSED TO KEEP HER ENTERTAINED....so I grab my trusty mouth harp and start playing some soft, soulful notes.
Well Fuck Me- This cat looked at me like it had seen the devil and made a mad dash into the next room.

Is there anything that you do that drives your pet (cat, dog, iguana or chinchillla) crazy?

Vacuuming.

My otherwise trusting, loving, and generally sedentary old black lab flips out every time I clean the the carpets. Unfortunately, until she stops shedding, I have to keep vacuuming.

Vacuuming, the door bell, and a high pitched noise that my sister and I can make. Their tails get all puffy and run. Good stuff.

Spraying them with squirt guns, vacuuming, and of course, the group cat hug. Three cats gathered up and held so that each is touching the other two. A little squirming at first, then a lot of squirming, and then mad dashes in three seperate directions when holding on is no longer an option. Around 12 years ago I had a cat that responded favorably to whistling, but I never tried the harmonica.

The orange cat hates closed doors. Even if it's a room he's been in many times before, he'll want in most if the door is closed.

My pets also hate the vaccume. But one of our red cats loves to wash herself at the sink while I'm getting ready. As soon as I head into the bathroom, there he is up on the counter, waiting for me to turn the water on and then he washes himself and drinks the water. Weird huh?

my dog doesnt like harmonicas either. probably doesn't like the noise frequency's... or something. she starts howling. she's also afraid of street drains when i take her for a walk. she's curiously intrigued by our well we have, yet when i uncover the opening (basically, a small whole in the ground) she will nottttt go near it, afraid of falling in. :-D the hole is too small for her to actually get stuck.

So true. My friend has 2 younger cats and when I whip out the pointer they go nuts trying to catch it. After a while, they take turns on going after the red dot and resting. As for my dog, he's a big chicken - he's hates the vacuum (on or off) and thunder especially. Any big noise and he slowly starts to make his way upstairs into the bedroom.

My cats have always loved the harmonica. When one had kittens, all five would follow me around the house when I played. Kind of a wierd pied-piper scene. I usually played the "Mighty Dog" theme from the commercial.

If I catch her and try to pick her up and carry her to the door, she'll totally freak out and dig her claws in me and desparately try to get away. hehe she totally loves me though. when she hears me coming she comes running ;D

I've only had the cats for a few weeks so it's too soon to tell...the vacuum seems to be okay as long as it's not coming near them. They don't like the harmonica very much but are fascinated when my hands are moving really fast on the piano. I thought they would like walking ON the piano and making the different sounds as they walked, but so far, no excitement from them...

Odd things my cats do:

One of them hides under the couch whenever he hears thunder. When Isabel blew thorugh we had to give him dinner under the couch. This same cat will stalk a piece of string for 5-20 minutes before poucing on it and beating the snot out of it.

I have a cat-dog. As a stray kitten he was actually taken in by a pair of german shepherds, and to this day he makes a barking sound when he wants something, rolls over to have his belly scratched, speaks on command, and sits up and begs for his dinner. We made no effort whatsoever to instill the behaviors in him

The last cat is a little 7-pound ball of nothing, but she rules the house by beating the other two up. She knows where the laser pointer is at and will occaisionally bat at it while it hangs from the keyrack, demanding that it be activated. She enjoys pizza, potato chips, bacon, and very spicy chili. She will also fetch anything small and fuzzy that is thrown past her.

Our black cat hates the christmas tree as well. She'll hide for a day or so, then gradually get used to it. I like to shake a branch just as she get close enough to sniff the tree. Makes her jump sky high.

Good times...

My cats hate my hairdryer, and one of them gets that evil look in her eye any time she sees my inhaler. Guess it sounds like a cat hissing when I use it? I dono. Who can figure out why they do what they do.

Our dog hates the vacuum, and is afraid of my purse, which is made out of two license plates and some VW hubcap centers. Go figure. I think her reflection in the hubcaps scares her or something.

Our cat is pretty young yet - hasn't developed many wierd habits yet. We lock her in the bathroom at night or she walks on my counters and lays on our faces and pillows. She has this spot on the rack over the toilet where she usually sleeps - I washed the cusion there lately and she won't get up there now. Every time we go in the bathroom in the middle of the night or early morning she's sleeping IN the sink. Now that's wierd.

Growing up we had a small toy poodle (7 lbs), a tortoise shell persian (17 lbs) and I had a parakeet. Because of the size difference the cat ruled the dog and bossed her around. The bird on the other hand liked to try to land on the two 4 legged critters. They didn't like that so learned to dash for cover when I let Cappy out of his cage. He wasn't one bit afraid of the cat who would try to sneak up on him. He just hopped up to her on the floor and yanked on her whiskers sending her running for cover. Cappy was a wierd one. He came when I called, let me hold him on his back in my hand, figured out how to open his cage, he could say quite a few phrases and shortly before his demise he learned to say "Here Kitty Kitty." That last one always got a laugh out of people. Specially considering the cat was already scared of this tiny bird.

Kamikaze (my cat) hates plastic bags. She'll run upstairs and hide under a dresser when I'm rustling the bags taking out the garbage. One time, she decided she'd be brave, and tackle her fear. Big mistake. She pounced on a plastic bag and started wrestling with it in the kitchen. My friend and I were in the living room, hearing this commotion, and all of a sudden we hear a feline shriek, and out comes Kamikaze, flying faster than Superman. She managed to get her head stuck in one of the plastic loops of the bag, and was wearing it like a cape. Of course, it was making the sound that drives her insane, and she couldn't get away from it. She did three laps around the living room/kitchen, while the two of us are laughing histerically, keeping our feet off the ground so we wouldn't get shredded. She then jumped over the papasan, over me, and shot upstairs to her hidey hole. I wrestled the bag off of her and let her be. That was one traumatized cat. She didn't come out for two days. Mister Mister (my other cat) was very amused.

Ripsaw, your story reminds me of one that happened when our oldest cat was still a kitten.

I'd gotten a mylar balloon for my birthday or something, and it was weighted down with a washer. The cat would toy with the ribbon and bat at the washer when it bounced up and down. Once when she was wrestling with it, the ribbon got wrapped around her midsection and when she got up to walk away, damn if this big shiny thing wasn't following her....so she started to scurry faster, and the big shiny thing followed her faster, and pretty soon she was tear-assing around the house looking panick-stricken, tail puffed up bigger than my arm, with this balloon chasing her. She finally got free of it but ever since then she's been terrified of balloons. Funniest thing ever.

My cat Misty is afraid of vacuums. HORRIBLY afraid. When she was a kitty, we tried to get her to calm down about them, but I think it resulted in a more traumatized cat...

And She hates remote control cars even more than that. My little brother and I would try to get her to ride around on them when we were younger. Ever since then she won't walk near one. Makes it a point to walk all the way around it. Cracks me up. She's so fat now that her stomach almost drags on the ground, and every now and then we'll fire up his remote control Hummer (or whichever one has battery power at the time) and chase her... RUN, KITTY, RUN!!!!!!!!!

Also, she found a little box turtle in the front yard... scared shitless. She came flying inside like there was a dog after her. Parents go outside, what do they see? A cute little innocent turtle. We adopted it (Speedy) and Misty wouldn't go near our new little friend's home.

I pull off my belt and fold it to start making loud smacking noises. My chihuahua puts her ears behind her head and runs under the nearest bed and shakes for 15 min. Kind of funny since the dog has never been smacked or physically abused in it's entire little life. Well, I think my de-clawed cat hits her occasionally, but it doesn't hurt her.

For my cat, the vacuum always gives quite an entertaining result. And for some reason, she has a total phobia of the laundry room. Well it could be the fact that she got put in the dryer on accident once. Other than that, she's fine.

Yeah vacuuming and the door bell drive my dog nuts, as well as knocking on just about anything.

The cat goes insane whenever you scritch his head, he'll lull back and forward, then lunge at your hand and bite the fuck out of it.
