Sand art video (cool performance art)

Thought I'd share this neat video of a perfomance artist working with an overhead projector and sand. It's truly amazing what he can do with it. He uses it like a giant free form Etch-a-Sketch on crack or something :)

http://my.so-net.net.tw/carl0726/sand.wmv

it's an 18.4 meg video so sorry those without broadband.

kukyfrope 11-13-2003 08:43 AM

lol wow!

MontanaXVI 11-13-2003 09:12 AM

very fucking cool indeed

krazykemist 11-13-2003 09:30 AM

Wow. That was incredibly unique.
The evolution of his work was amazing.
Do you have any infomation about the artist so that I can see more of his stuff?

Batman976 11-13-2003 09:42 AM

Yeah that's badass. I almost couldn't believe my eyes when he went from a ram to a monkey to a lion (is that what it was? I already forgot). Was that his name he wrote at the end?

Esoteric 11-13-2003 10:11 AM

That was fuckin great, I really liked how he went from a ram to monkey to lion. He has some talent.

Vyk 11-13-2003 10:20 AM

I don't know who the artist was. What he wrote was SiCAF 2003. This was done at the Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival 2003. The transitory nature of what he did makes it so incredible. I really wish I knew the guy's name.

I checked out their web page but couldn't find out the artist's name. If anyone knows Korean here, they might have a better chance :)

Update: Parangako is the artist's name. He's a hungarian animator.

here's their english site:

it has some other interesting art and pictures.

is their korean site

I dunno I found the whole thing kinda boring after about 30 seconds.

BonesCPA 11-13-2003 01:00 PM

That was something. You could follow the progression of the pictures, and just when you saw it complete he would change it up. Very interesting.

yournamehere 11-13-2003 01:09 PM

Is it just me, or was there a theme to the "random" drawings?

Seemed to me he was showing a history of our planet, from both an evolutionary and (I guess - mostly) biblical perspective.

Your results may vary

Snakebyt 11-13-2003 01:22 PM

that was really cool.. that man has alot of talent

Grondar 11-13-2003 03:33 PM

Very impressive.

I've never seen this form of art before, and it's certainly nice to see something new and fresh.

He is certainly a very talented individual.

bermuDa 11-13-2003 06:38 PM

that's wild! I was expecting something like tibetan sand murals, this wasn't as beautiful but definitely more entertaining!

Tirian 11-13-2003 08:44 PM

I liked that a lot. Great way of producing both high contrast solid lines and interesting gradients.

Talented artist !

Hmmm.. Airbrush + sand = interesting negative gradient.

Destrox 11-14-2003 05:03 AM

True art right there laides and gents'

Hard to find a better non-enhanced freeform.

monty121052 11-14-2003 05:14 PM

Very clever.thanks.

hoboballer 11-14-2003 07:14 PM

Great stuff; thanks.

WarWagon 11-14-2003 09:28 PM

Definitely trippy. I wasn't expecting him to be so fluent, seemed like the only mistakes he had to correct was at the very end!

happymaan 11-15-2003 03:28 PM

I really enjoyed that, thanks...so many idiots taking flash pictures those sorta pissed me off.

Don't people understand that flash photography doesn't really work with projected images?

bit_of_honey 11-15-2003 06:40 PM

Thanks for a great post.. that was very amazing and interesting!!

OU812 11-15-2003 07:51 PM

Gortexfogg 11-16-2003 12:19 PM

Amazing stuff...to make such detail with sand is just incredible. Thanks for posting, that 9 minutes was worth evey second!

wallaby72 11-16-2003 03:36 PM

That was very good - he makes it seem so quick and simple.

I would hate to be his cleaner though - "just WHO is going to clean this shit up!!?"

tangledweb 11-16-2003 04:07 PM

Very unusual and cool stuff. He was very fluid with his transitions and very polished. Good stuff.

31Friction 11-16-2003 05:04 PM

That was quite incredible, thanks for posting it :)

gophersurf 11-16-2003 08:26 PM

Quite cool. Its amazing how those inclined to do so can find the most interesting mediums in which to express themselves.

LewisCouch 11-17-2003 08:32 AM

Great find! This fellow, utilizing nothing but sand and light, captured my imagination. He's most unique and his work refreshing.

Minx 11-17-2003 10:08 AM

Wow! This was really great - I loved the lion especially and how everything just flowed together so well.

tj2001cobra 11-17-2003 11:11 AM

I envy people with artistic talent like that. I couldn't draw a stick figure house without tracing it. That was SOOO cool!

Tiser 11-17-2003 11:25 AM

So smooth. I've showed it to the gang here.

Hanxter 11-18-2003 09:40 AM

dailyjo2003 11-18-2003 11:56 AM
