Quick question... When I delete my private messages from my folder... where does it go? Is there record somewhere? Where is it stored to start with?

I never asked my admins at my other forum I mod...But I doubt they're kept. If you're worrying agbout incriminating info consider this: There is a vB hack that allows admins to read all PM boxes. Not saying they have that here, but I wouldn't trust PMs at any forum for any sensitive info.

I know when I delete mine they go to Miami.

I'm not sure why... I think they own a house down there?

the PM's are stored in a database. I imagine when you hit "delete" it sends a delete command to the relevant data in the db. in other words, except for backups, it's gone. hope you don't want to recover something...

I just wanted to state, since it was touched upon earlier that it's possible, that we do NOT abitrarily read people's PM's here - and as far as I'm aware it's not even possible - so don't worry about that.

As far when they're deleted? They're just that - deleted. *poof*

that hack is for vB 3 but I'm sure there is a vB 2 hack(edit: later in the thread this is confirmed). And the thread states a MySQL query can be used or phpmyadmin to read anyone PM's if necessary. I'm just advocating you trust NO forum with anything incriminating regardless since these things can be done. Protect yourself because no one is gonna protect you, especially if you get them in some shit(subpeona of PMs etc) as a result.

And, yes, don't trust any internet forum with incriminating info about yourself. The best way to not get in legal trouble is to stay out of the way of the law though

I didnt want to recover anything, it was more of assurance that they couldnt be found... ever... again.

In the future however, conversations of... illegal nature may be kept to in person only.
