I emailed the fine people at Coca-Cola and got a pretty quick reply.

This is what they have to say:

The date on the packaging is the "Optimum Taste Date." This is the date by which we recommend you consume the beverage for the best taste. The complete date code is located on the bottom of cans and on the neck of bottles. For our diet brands, the optimum taste period is 13 weeks. For sugar-sweetened brands, this period is 39 weeks. Since there is nothing in our Company brands that should spoil, we expect that our brands are safe to consume beyond the date.

So, Coke says drink it... but since we haven't heard back from the guy, maybe he DID drink it and is too sick to check the board...

The ones I used to get were 8oz, which were not returnable. The 6.5oz and 10oz, OTOH, are. They're the ones with the deposit as I now recall. They won't sell the 6.5oz bottles anymore unless you bring 'em in, as they're that rare.

Hm. Looks like the 10oz bottles have reached that point too. Bummer. Wish they'd just make more of them. I wonder what would be required to make more...

(edit) By the way, I have one bottle left. I can't have it until I reach a particular personal goal. Of course, I can't order more either.

thank you thank you thank you thank you for this link!!!

You're quite welcome. As a diabetic, I kinda have to watch my use of such ambrosia. :(

I saved a bunch of the Star Wars Pepsi cans...a couple of them leaked, though, and I got syrup all over the shelf...boo.

Hmm...why would some cans leak, and some not?
