enjoy the discomfort soon your upper lip will start to stink, then bugs will start making there homes in your side burns, and it will stay a splochy.
HAha kidding, no it goes away after it is about 3/8 to 1/2 inch long

my general dislike of having a clean-shaven face for long periods of time (as in shaving at least my chin more than once every 6 months or so) has almost always over-ruled any kind of discomfort.
There are periods, especially during the summer months or major job interviews, when I cut it down to a Van Dyke or Goatee but just recently decided to start using the clippers on very high setting like 5 or 6 and let it grow out the whole year.

I've had mine for 4 years, when I cut it shorter it still itches like hell... the worst thing you can do is scratch. Other than that I am a big fan of the beard. I think it makes me look ruggedly handsome. Yeah, that's it.

I'm (thankfully) clean-shaven now, but last year had a goatee with the approximate texture of a brillo-pad. I grew it for a contest, and after about 3 months it still itched all the time. On the other hand, when you're trying to waste time, stroking a beard is a good distraction, and people think you're an intellectual! (all I was thinking was "god this is itchy...")

I grew one about a year ago and it itched for about 7 to 10 days. I had to shave for a good face mask seal last month to go diving. It barely itched at all. So maybe it gets better each time.

Mine has never, ever itched before. Don't really know why. Maybe I just don't remember it itching (it was a while back when I first grew a decent sized one for the first time). But now it doesn't itch at all when I grow a new one.

My face itches like hell if I let it get longer than 1mm or so. Thats why I *have* to shave after about three days.
