A while back, I read a book by C.S. Lewis called The Screwtape Letters. I was intrigued to say the least. I rather enjoyed his way of concentrating on the negative and wrongful aspects of those leading a Godly and Christian lifestyle. Through such contrast, I understood more clearly how I should be living. the following work is completely original in all literary senses, and the only borrowed idea was that of contrasting actions, hence giving a guiding hand through trouble areas. This story deals with an elder devil named Screwtape and his nephew Wormwood. Each is living in the depths of Hell and are trying to lead earthly people ("patients") to their home, by means of confounding their actions to benefit Satan instead of God (referred to as "the Enemy"). This particular letter is dealing with the struggles of sexual immorality, and the ensuing spiritual battle. Some emotional, spiritual and physical aftermaths of stumbling are also documented. Dearest Wormwood,

It has reached my ears that your patient has recently started to give into his physical desires. This is truly a momentous occasion and you should take full advantage of his situation. Use the fact that he longs for a deep relationship with the Enemy against him. The Enemy does not want a soul who wounds him so deeply, especially someone who would commit such a detestable sin in his eyes. Seek out his heart and fill it with more worldly desires, let him succumb to the messages around him; weaken his resolve to remain faithful to the Enemy. Surely he knows in the back of his feeble mind that he has pledged to look the other way when temptation comes around, but we know he blunders, and it is there where we must take a foothold.
Do not let him communicate with the Enemy, for that is his strength. Sever his mainlines through his assurance that the Enemy will always accept him no matter what sin has been sinned, and the fact that he has brought other people into his life to keep him accountable his even better. Help him to set his mind on the fact that no one will ever accept him again and that everyone of his friend, even his closest, will look on him with disgust. Tell him that he needs no help, and use the tried and true method of losing the trust of others; he can do it on his own. Plant thoughts of ambiguity in his human cranium, push his soul to the brink of devastation and keep him there in a false sense of security.
For as long as you can, keep him to the darkest reaches of the earth. He cannot express himself without doubting himself, so there is no way that he can ever trust himself to be true. Make absolutely sure that he never opens the book of the Enemy; keep his mind off of his transgressions for as long as possible without revealing yourself. Let his mind wander to every thought except those of conviction and restitution, he is a marked man, never to be trusted; nor forgiven. Truly he is a lost soul, floating towards the mess of captivity he never wanted to associate with.
Keep him at a distance from his friends, they have no inkling of what he is going through; they could never understand his pain. Attack all of his lady friends in his life, they will never trust him around them; let the consequences of his actions reach farther than a “just” punishment. No woman would ever trust a man who desires only her body.
Hate is your prevalent weapon, for his hate for us has been transferred to an idea made perfect first by the Enemy. What else could we ask for? The primal instincts which all of our teachings are based on are already founded in him. Feed his hate, for he will not hate us, resembling what he was taught, but rather he hates the very existence of women. He hates himself, because all that he does is abhorrent.
