Have you ever won a "lifetime supply" of anything?

You don't see it a whole lot anymore, but gameshows/contests etc used to give away "a lifetime supply" of turtle wax/coffee/shampoo/etc as a prize. So I was wondering if anyone here had ever won anything like that. If so did they give it to you all at once, or was it X amount of product per month?

What made me think about this was watching an old gameshow on GSN and they gave away a "lifetime supply" of something from a company that I know no longer exists, so I wondered if the winners were now SOL.

If I remember right, "lifetime supply" doesn't mean all you want for the rest of your life.

I think it had to do with figuring average usage over a specified time period and giving the winner the whole winnings in bulk at one time.

Not totally sure, but that is what I have heard.

On the other hand, I know of some people that have been given "lifetime" passes (i.e. to McDonald's). If McDonald's were to ever close, then their "card" would be useless.

A local radio station once gave away a "Year's supply" of gasoline a few years back. What it wound up being was a $500 debit card to Exxon/Mobil that expired one year from the date you got it. It worked out to a little over $40 a month. I think most of us would agree we spend more than $40 a month on gas, especially if we have more than one vehicle.

having worked with contest promoters and creators... it's simple, they have a formula of the average sales and uses of their products and that's what they use to figure out what a "lifetime supply" is...

it's also listed in the odds and rules of the games as is the value of the prize for income tax purposes.

A few years ago, in some silly contest I won a "life time supply of some soap -- I used one bar and it made my skin break out...

I was shipped something like 4 cases of this soap-- I don't know how may bars - -and I gave it to a homeless shelter.. I was just glad I didn't get sent a bar a week - that would have been really annoying.

Yep.

When I married Mrs Mephisto.

I'm now the proud owner of a lifetime's supply of compromise.

Sometimes I wish I could take it back to the shop...

That made my day. Ironically, the people who get passes like that are normally celebrities who make so much money they have little use for them anyways.

That's about a weeks worth of gas these days.

So I guess the "lifetime supply" tag just makes it sound better than saying x# of product.

A local radio station gave away 1 million dollars...

One dollar a year for a million years or the rest of your life, whichever came first.

So, other than gas, beer and money, if you could win one product in a lifetime supply, what would you choose and why?

I think I'd pick camera film or Tim Hortons doughnuts.

Good question - I've always wondered the same thing.

I've also wondered about those people who, back years ago, bought lifetime subscriptions to magazines like LIFE. I recently spent $100 on a lifetime subscription to Rolling Stone - I've spent approximately $20 a year on that magazine since 1989 so I figured it was well worth it. I don't remember the terms of the subscription at the moment...

I've never won a 'lifetime supply' of anything but my Mum once won a 'trolley dash' / 'supermarket sweep', and that was a crazy event to watch...

It wasn't televised or anything, it was at our local supermarket just before Christmas. My Mum went last out of all the other 'sweepers'. There were certain rules already in place i.e. no alcohol, no tobacco, no scooping with the arm etc...
But as the whistle went she flew off around the isles grabbing everything and anything that she could, filling trolleys like they were going out of fashion... She filled about 6 shopping trolleys full of stuff like turkeys, biscuit tins, washing powder etc And the grand total was over £500 worth of shopping within the 1 minute!

Maaaan, that was a mince pie filled Christmas...

My girlfriend's grandfather enters contests as a hobby. He enters probably like 100 or more every month, and he wins quite a bit. He's won a car, dvd player, etc...and she tells me he once won a lifetime supply of Oreos. But they don't ship them to him every month or anything, they just gave him a ton of coupons for free Oreos.

I would like a lifetime supply of coffee at a place like Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks. Since I go there almost every day I think it would add up to be quite a bargain, and it's something I'll always want/need.

That sounds like a really good hobby. Where does he find out about the contests?

My mom won a similar contest for the grand opening of our local grocery store. She had 77 seconds (odd number -- still don't know the significance) and went straight for the meat. Wisconsin meat ain't nuthin to sniff at (think Green Bay Packers, as in MEAT packers) so she made out like a bandit. We had the most AMAZING (free) leg of lamb that Easter

I'd like to win a lifetime supply of sour patch kids. I'd be fat, but I'd be happy.

A Lifetime supply of Ale-8 (if you don't know now, don't ask, you wouldn't understand)
Lifetime supply of Lemon-Lime Gatorade.
Lifetime supply of Partigas Black-Label Cigars (or premium cigars in general).
Lifetime supply of free porn (wait, the TFP gave me that)

I always wondered why they stopped offering this as a measure of grand prizes. It seemed plentiful-sounding enough to me, so did the gameshow public just get jaded?
