Why I nearly fired someone today

We are in California. It was 4:30PM PST. We had the following conversation -

Bob, what’s going on with your client in Belize?

Gee, boss, I can’t call them now. It’s probably four in the morning there.

No. I think Belize is in the same time zone as Mississippi, give or take an hour.

I don’t think so. Belize is pretty far South.

…And people wonder why I grind my teeth.

Coppertop 11-11-2004 05:23 PM

Nearly fired? How'd they get the job in the first place?

radioguy 11-11-2004 05:26 PM

just place a time zone map on his desk in the morning and re-ask the question later in that day. hopefully, you'll get a better answer.

SecretMethod70 11-11-2004 05:26 PM

LMAO. Sometimes, clavus, I wonder what it's like to be you :)

clavus 11-11-2004 05:26 PM

Let's just say that there wan't a geography quiz during the interview.

maleficent 11-11-2004 05:33 PM

If he ever gets stuck again..

What a moron...

I wonder if he thinks that Southern Cali is in a different time zone-- it is south you know....

Justsomeguy 11-11-2004 05:34 PM

Belize is pretty far south. Close to Mexico I believe. What is so funny?

clavus 11-11-2004 05:35 PM

Oh sweet Jesus. Bob has a brother...

it wouldn't be a 12 hour time difference-- 12 hour time difference would be more like southern hemisphere. (like australia)

Oh

my

goodness.

ShaniFaye 11-11-2004 05:45 PM

While I admit I have no idea where Belize is (I looked at Mal's link and now know its only an hour behind us) I would think I'd know it if they were one of my CLIENTS

We have licensees in Scotland, England, South Africa, Germany and Australia and I can tell you what time it is in THEIR locations at any given time.

before this gets worse

Surely it was a typo, right? You got the Australia part right.

*edit - rightish :D

clavus 11-11-2004 07:27 PM

Oh, maleficent, maleficent, maleficent... I fear you have been infected with the dreaded Bob's Brain Virus.

Justsomeguy 11-11-2004 07:31 PM

This thread COULD have been fun. It's like that one question on the Newly Wed show where the couples are asked which side the sun rises. I remember atleast one replying that it rises from the north where she lives. And before we have any wiseguys try to post about vectors and it the sun may be north relative to her home, this woman was just wrong. She was an idiot. Some people just are..

I'd just like to point out that we Australian southern hemispherians aren't that far from you in timezone, especially on the west - no south coast ;)

We do all know that the position of the country on the "vertical" (North/South) access has absolutely nothing to do with the time-zone...

...

...

...

...don't we?
