Watch out for attic trusses
 

With the Christmas season upon us I was up in the attic gathering the decorations. Now, my attic is a bit short, I have a ranch style house so the attic ceiling at the peak is about 5 feet and about every 2 feet there is a support tie about 3 ft off the attic floor.

I had gathered the last of the items and was straightening up the other boxes. On my way out I grabbed one of the support ties and planted my other hand so as to swing down through the opening onto the attic stairs/ladder. The lights were off so I could not see the impending doom as I swung full speed into one of the other ties with my head. To say I saw stars would be an injustice....I saw the freakin' Milky Way. As I stood there on the attic steps bleeding and in pain, my wife says to me, "Did you hit your head? You shouldn't be swinging through the attic like a monkey." Not, "Are you okay?"...not, "Do you need help?", but, "You shouldn't be swinging through the attic like a monkey." Followed by, "You should be more careful, you don't have any hair to protect your head." Yeah, like hair would have protected me from my own stupidity....please.

Let this be a lesson to you all...do not swing through the attic on the trusses in the dark.

lol, atleast your roofer didn't use three inch nails for your shingles :D

Two years ago in Spain, in the rain at night, I walked down a narrow street and some very big stones from the top front of an old apartment building fell right in front of me.
Would have killed me if I walked just a little faster. Completely changed my train of thought :-)

sounds like your wife should spend some time in the attic.

oh man I thought this was going to be a "I fell through the attic floor" story. It was still entertaining though :) I've almost ran into a pole before outside of class. Missed it by about one inch. Just happened to be looking the wrong way at the right time.
