Help Me Prepare for a Scholarship Competition :D

Hey,
I have to go to a scholarship competition for a college I plan on attending. The competition is an essay test. I guess I'll be given several topics of which I must write about one or two. So, now I need to know how to prepare for this thing? Have any of you ever been to something like this? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Something I was always told, go through a dictionary and find some stranger words, and learn the meanings, then try to throw them in (naturally, don't force it) your next essay.

Thanks.
Jeez, I just found an example of an older question they used:
"Describe color to a blind man."

i've never been in an essay competition per say, but from the question you posed, i would imagine there is no "right" or "correct" answer. it seems to me that they want to see your writing process:
1. can you write legibly
2. can you convey your thoughts in a timely manner
3. can you be succinct when necessary

the question seems to be sort of a brain teaser, and perhaps many will be that way. not sure if i really helped or not.

Try playing video games. It can improve your hand - eye cooridination. Also, try reading for a few hours, it helps to relax you and it can improve your reading and comprehension skills. Also watch television, it can improve your essay writing skills somehow.
