First day of school for me was today!

So today was my "first day." I didn't feel like the new kid b/c we were ALL new kids. That was nice.

Class started a little after 8am, because everyone was just getting situated with books and whatnot. Each class is 2 hours long, with a 10 min break in between each hour, and we have a half hr or so for lunch.

My first class I had was Human Relations. We have a cool instructor too. No need to get into details about the class; Human Relations should explain it enough. We are gonna learn about medical terminology as well, along with insurance type things, etc.

Second class is Medical Law and Ethics. I really like our instructor in this one. Out of all 3 I have right now, he's my fave. He's a retired 1st Sgt. out of the Army, and he's got a cool sense of humor about him. I noticed while he was speaking today he mentions his being in the military frequently. He told us alot about his background too; it was interesting to hear. Also, the way he'll be teaching our class is excellent, and it'll only benefit us in the end. It's like he said to us at the end of the day: he's here for us to learn, not to make anything hard to learn. He explained his own personal policies and procedures, and I think I can safely speak for the whole class when I say, "wow." I think I'll really enjoy this class in particular.

Lunch came, and I've gotten to know a few of the girls in my class who are cool. Seems like we'll be friends and stuff, which is really nice, considering I haven't met any girls out here at ALL since I've moved. I'm pretty grateful for that. One of the girls actually lives literally down the road from me I found out. Good thing too, we can study together and probably be friends as well. She's the same age as me. I was like, you're MY age and you live in Dade City? That's AMAZING (only because according to the sign you see when you drive here, it says, "One of the top 100 places to retire")! This place is crawling with 50+ people! Not that it's BAD, it's just that I don't see many people my age here.

Third and last class of the day was Clinical Asepsis. In this class we're learning clinical stuff (obviously). We're going to get CPR certified, learn how to stick people and draw blood, do blood pressure, take vitals, analyze blood and urine samples, proper procedures as far as sterilizing equipment, scrubbing up before and after labs, what emergency procedures to follow in a medical office, along with learning how to take and read an EKG.

I like all of my instructors. The classes are small, and they already know our names. They encourage us to ask questions, to come to them after class if we need tutoring or help understanding something, and they're open with you. You don't see that a lot in larger schools.

My scrubs are a nice blue color too Although, my scrub pants are kinda long on me. I'll have to hem them. That, or I got shorter! hehe

Was a good day overall

Good for you. Reading your thread reminded me of the first day of high school for me. Big new school, trying to find my class and getting lost in the process. I can remember the first day of high school and the last day of high school. A lot of shit happened in those 4 years.

Good luck to you in school.

haha, it's always nice to have a good first day of school, and looks like you're doing well. It's interesting how many people you can meet when everyone is new; everyone's looking for friends, and you can meet all types of people. What school is this that you're at? It sounds freaking awesome; I had a few teachers over my schooling that get to know the class quickly, but they're a precious few.

Oh, and long pants are good stuff.

That’s awesome dude. It’s so much easier to learn when you actually like those that are teaching you. Also, well done on making friends already for they, and you, will be able to provide mutual support through-out the course.

On the flip side of having teachers knowing each of the students by name, last semester I had an exceptionally good tutor for psychology who swore but the rule of not getting to know people by name. His reason for this, he said, so that when he had to mark assignments, he had no idea of whose work he was marking and thus, there would be much less room for bias in mark allocation.

For some reason, first day of school always made me nervous, I don't know what it is, but there is that nasty feeling deep down inside that accompanies me and sits in the buttom of my stomach, but after the first class, it completely leaves me. Congrats!
