Not sure where to put this:

I have no idea where to put this topic whether its "music" or "how-to" i was just wondering if anyone here had taking guitar lessons. I know the basic stuff like Power chords and dumb things like that, that you can learn from reading tab but I want to be able to play good sounding acoustic songs. ala 60's beatnik music/sing song writer stuff.

I've fallen(recently, yes i'm only 19 and wasn't around in his heyday) in love with paul simon and art garfunkel and the mamas and the papas and always loved eric clapton especially his unplugged stuff and i'd love to even be to able to emulate some of their things. I was wondering how much lessons to get me to a level where i can learn to play these things and just tool around and have fun would run me. I honestly have no idea and i'm not going to be anywhere near home until at least may so i won't be able to find out so if anyone has any info i'd be grateful, thanks guys.

I think you'e asking how much lessons would cost. My dad teaches guitar lessons in his home and charges $15 for either a half hour or an hour lesson. I think taking them from a music store runs a bit more. Also, your region might have a lot to do with it.

Also, the guitar classes you can take at schools (i'm thinking you might be in, or near, a school) can be helpful. The intro classes will generally teach you basic theory, how to read notes, scales, stuff that can be helpful when it's time to play for real.

I wouldn't worry about lessons too much.....pick up a program called guitar pro. it's relatively inexpensive and then you can download tab from www.mysongbook.com best way to learn music thats how my brother does it. He's never had a lesson at all. And you name it and he can play it. and he even writes his own songs and he just turned 18, way over excellent for his age.
